95 201 Pro XL
Looking at a 95 201 Pro XL.
I dont have any experience with a Stratos.
Any known problem areas with this hull? Specific things to check?
My current boat is a 94 BCB PII, that Ive had for the last 10 years. Wondering how the ride will compare? Fishability?
How is the holeshot with a 200 'Rude?
How big are the livewells in the 201?
Anymore information appreciated.
Thanks

Re: 95 201 Pro XL (Von)
I have the same hull but with a 225 on the back. I bought the boat used about 7 years ago and have been very happy with it.
The ride is really very good and it handle rough water well. Stable fishing platform with plenty of space on both front and rear decks.
I have been told that many owners who have since moved to newer hulls wish they still had this one (just word of mouth though so take it for what its worth).
Not a speed demon, should run around 65 mph with that 200. The hull weighs 1490 lbs. Assuming the 200 Rude is the 1995 Vindicator, that will weigh around 450 lbs. The Vindicators usually have good to decent holeshot.
Biggest thing would be to check the compression/leak down on the motor to make sure its in good shape. Pull the drain plug on the lower unit and check the magnet for shavings and water in the oil. See if the owner knows the last time the motor was decarbed http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif .
Some boats had issues with a gel coat that is prone to stress cracks - this is only cosmetic. BUT if you see stress cracks verify that its only in the gel coat and not the fiberglass (particularly around the transom).
Also the switch panels are glass and can crack easily if the mounting screws are turned too tight. Nit-picking I know.
Overall, I've been very happy with mine. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Re: 95 201 Pro XL (Von)
The older 201's are some great riding stable fishin rigs, not a speed dempn though. A 24 raker or 25 gade is the correct prop for that rig.
