New Stratos owner!

I am moving this from the general forum. I am buying a 1996 18.5ft Stratos single console w/ a 150 evinrude. I spoke to a mechanic today about putting on a Jack Plate and hydrolic steering and the guy said that on some boats a jack plate can impede the performance and said I should look and see if one would benefit my boat. I am confused. I thought a Jack plate would enhance the performance. Comments, advise?

Some boats they kind , because they have allready have them buit in them with set-back ? But dont know what boat you have but , most stratos will take a 6 inch plate with know problem with calbes ?

A 6" jackplate will work great on that boat.
