Stratos construction question
Hello all,
This is my first post since registering, so I am sorry if it has been asked and answered many times already.
I am looking at a 1992 Stratos and wondering if they are made with composite transoms and stringers. I had a bad experience when I purchased a 1981 Tide Craft for $1400 only to learn the entire boat was rotted out. I swore from then on to never again purchase a boat which used wood transoms and stringers.
Thanks in advance,
Dan
Re: Stratos construction question (dan-k)
Stratos began composite construction in 97. A 92 will have wood.

Welcome to the boards! I'm sure someone will be along to help out! Almost positive there is no wood in that transom though http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: Stratos construction question (craigs06)
Did they just complety switch in 97 or was it a phase out? My 96 has wood in the dash but I have always wondered whats in the transom. I justt did the ohm meer check on the transom today. Had nothing f connected to the left tiedown and jackplate bolts but had some connectivity in the right tie down to jackplate. I couldnt reach the 2 tie downs by myself.

My 97, bought new, was advertised as the first Stratos to be wood free transom. The front deck was still wood and fiberglas. Had a sticker on the back stating composite transom. I think Javelin was a yr or two after that

I did some battery work on a 97 Ranger that had several open holes in where the batteires mounted. The 2 rear sealed boxes where full of water we used a vacume and air pressure to force out over 5 gallons each side. I wonder if mine is like that. just one small hole in those rear panels and your done. Im going to weigh mine this spring at the truck stop. The day I bought it no gas, 1/2 tank oil 2 -27 series batteries 1- 24 starting and the Omc 56 lb troller. She weighed 2860lbs I'll have to add for the Fortrex, jackplate ,onboard charger, difference now with 3- 31 series battery's. Oh it had a new tire in the boat as well so call it 2835 lbs

What is the ohm meter check?
Re: Stratos construction question (redline36)
Take an ohm meter and touch the rear tiedowns, if the transom is real wet you will have some continuity.
There no set value tough but if it shows infinite (open connection) its sure a good sign. If its a dead short you have metal to metal contac some where.
Re: Stratos construction question (dan-k)
According to Todd Morgan Stratos went full composite in 1998.
