Need Help with Cold Start on '73 115
To anyone with Johnson knowledge:
I have a '73 Johnson 115 Powershift. Motor was rebuilt in 12/06 and I rebuilt the carbs hoping to solve a problem.
Since I have owned this motor (6months now) I have had to use Eather to start it when cold. Once it runs, it fires right up every time.
Possible Problems:
1. Gas line Does not hold pressure in bulb. I have changed out all new fule hoses, new fuel pump and filter.
2. Rebuilt Carbs.
3. I can pump the bubl up thill tight, them if I squeeze it once more, it drops all the pressure.
So I have had to use eather prior to launching the boat out, and firing the motor.
It works, but is a hassel.
I adjusted the electirc Choke and linkage to closed position because the butterflies were not closed at all prior.
Any help here would be great. I have possibly thought of Timing? But Do not know enough about these motors yet to warrant messing this up.
Thanks,
tom england

PLEASE, don't use ether to crank the engine. It will wash all the oil properties off the cylinders and cause MAJOR problems. Post your model and serial #'s and the gurus here can help you better.
Re: Need Help with Cold Start on '73 115 (Bassmeister)
Model Number is 115ESL73M
I checked the inside of the plug wires and WOW Rusty.........
So I bought some Marine universal 90' boots and new clips.
But, the buld is what has me puzzled. Pump her up she goes tight, and one more squeeze to make sure she if full, and the pressure drops off??? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sick.gif
Any help would be NICE
