I'm looking to put a jack plate on the 295 Pro Elite w/ 200 Johnson Venom I recently bought. Any thoughts on the best size and/or brand for the money? My budget's not bad but not the highest either.
Thanks!

Just depends on if you want manual or hydraulic. I'd go with a slidemaster manual in 6" or 8". If you're going hydraulic you'll get all kinds of opinions as to which is better.
6" manual hi jacker pro or slidemaster
slidemaster 6" or 8"
i have shopped and the best price is "pitstop marine" and i think they are also a board sponsor. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
As was said Slidemasters are very user friendly and well built, i'll throw rapid jack in the mix too. As far as hydro plates, Detwiler, Bobs, and Atlas seem to be popular. I had a Detwiler hydro on a old boat and it worked good.
Manual = Slidemaster
Hydraulic = Atlas
Man.- Rapid Jack
Hydr.- Atlas
Thanks a lot guys!!!
Manual=Rapid Jack easiest of the manuals to adjust 1 click=1/4". Hydro Bob's. 8" max, 6" and you shouldn't have to change steering cables.
Heck man I bought a 12" slide master and put it on my 21 SS Extreme, I know they only recommend max an 8", but mine works great handles very nice and with the new Yammy 225 series II she's pritty quick ..

I know slidemaster is a good plate but a buddy of mine has a 18' skeeter w/150 on it and the plate broke vertical. It could have been the way he does not maintain stuff. Either way slidemaster did replace it although it was about 5 years old. I have a Detweiler h2o manual plate I love it, easiest I have had to adjust on the water (less than a minute) http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif and no flex but I am just running a 150 not sure how it holds up against bigger motors.
