On the block the gaket is shaped to include where the bolt goes through to conect both sides. The gasket was folded up to where it did not include where the bolt goes through.Should that have been noticed when I had it checked over.Work order said to check everything.
Still don't get it?

I think it might be asking a lot of a shop to have them check a motor over and have them find a problem that does not give a symptom they can detect. Some problems would require it to be run on the water. A misaligned gasket happens whether outboard or auto rebuild. Now if it had a problem that showed itself when running, that would be a different story. JMO
