1993 johnson venom 200hp #2 cylinder carb rejetting
Hello i am new to this board but i can tell allready that is is going to be a great resource.Recently when i posted a question about xd25 oil a member replied and also made me aware of a possibly problem that i was not aware of. He said that on alot of these engines the #2 cylinder runs hot and that it is common to rejet the #2 carb to make it run richer thus making it run cooler. He also said it was not all engines. My engine is a 1993 johnson 200hp venom model #vj200sletc serial #g03230611. Can you tell me if my engine has this problem and if so what jet should i install. Also i live and fish in New England mostly around sea level. Thanks in advance. Sam

Hi Sam and welcome to the boards http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif . Yep what we do is two things to help them, the first thing is to have you change out the drain plugs to the new style and the second is to swap out your HS orifice on the #2 carb. You'll have to pull the HS orifice on any of the carbs to get the size designation and then get one two sizes up. Here is a start for the carb drain plugs you'll need 6 344267 and 6 305739 O rings. The new style drain plug prevents the HS orifice from backing out of the carb bowl causing a lean out condition. You'll need to remove your carbs airbox cover and then remove the carb bowl drain plug. Use a narrow screwdriver and carefully remove the orifice, the number is marked on the side. On your motor looking from the front the #2 carb is the top left carb. The orifice will be marked with a number and a letter. Looking at the parts chart for your model looks like you have a 56D orifice. If so you'll want to order a 58D 328543. These parts can be ordered from any BRP dealer. Have fun.

Thank You very much for the info it sounds like a good winter project.I have another question for you the engine runs great but quite often when i shift from reverse to forward the engine will stall is this a shift cable adjustment. Thanks Sam
Re: 1993 johnson venom 200hp #2 cylinder carb rejetting (sampark)
What is the idle RPM in neutral and in gear? It may also be a bad shift interrupter switch that is located under the shift linkage on the motor.
Re: 1993 johnson venom 200hp #2 cylinder carb rejetting (ChampioNman)
The idle is about 800 in neutral and 600 in gear.
Re: 1993 johnson venom 200hp #2 cylinder carb rejetting (sampark)
Just a tad low bump it up to 1,000 in idle.

Joe you were right this a great place and the tech advice is unbelivable.Joe i noticed a jet when you post are you a pilot. The reason i ask is because i work for the general electric in lynn ma. we assemble and test alot of the military engines there, (f404, f414,t700 ect.)not to mention alot of commercial engines now to. Championman, I dont want to be a pain in a##,but i was wondering if you could give me your opinion on the Vro system alot of people say disconnect it and pre-mix your gas. I feel if it came from the factory it should say it place.I bought the boat and motor used in 1998 (1993 ranger492v, 200hp venom). I changed the water pump and both thermostats right away, it had just had a new vro pump put in.On the advice of the local dealer i put another vro pump in 5 years later he said the older vro pump might not handle the new fuel.My question is if stay with my preventive maint program it is due for a new vro pump this year. When i replace these pumps there is nothing wrong with them I just dont want to lose the motor so i figure it is not cheap but it is cheaper than a rebuild or a new motor.Should i stay with the vro? Am i replacing these pumps to often? Or should i just disconnect and premix and save the expense of a new pump. If i am running the boat hard i will premix a little anyway just to get it a little extra oil. Also what is the difference between vro pump and a cro pump someone told me to replace the vro with a cro i am lost. Sam
