ASX = driver's boat

I have heard some of you say that the ASX is a driver's boat. Well I found out why. Anything over 65mph, or should I say the next step up on the pad is a little scary! I had a Jav 389SE that would start walking about 65 and I was able to control it with small steering corrections, my 201 does the same thing, but nothing like the ASX. The main difference is that at 65 the 201 is WOT and this thing isn't even close to WOT. This thing starts jumping not walking! I'll need some time in the seat and some pointers on how to drive this thing if I keep it instead of my old 201. I'd be afraid to allow anyone to take this thing out by themselves.

I do still have to load it up, as there was nothing in the boat, I'm sure it will drive a little different when tourney loaded.

I believe the asx has a 7 in v-pad. This is the reason for being a drivers boat. Try and ballance your boat port and starbord. This will help alot.

You would probably feel about the same way about the new hulled 201's until you got some seat time...They are closer to the ASX hull than your 99 was and they will all walk at 74-75 and up without driver input...If it is walking at 65, it seems like the set-up may be off and the motor too low...That hull should just be cruising @ 65...

I had one and after I got the hang of it I really liked it. Rough water was my nemesis. The ticket in rough water is to keep the jackplate down and trim it as needed. The boat will handle really well like that. To run flat out, the jackplate needs to come up a little but not as much as one would think. Too much jackplate height will result in a porpoise at top end which combined with chine walk makes things very interesting! Take baby steps and when you find the sweet spot you will be pleased.

Yep, it's not a boat you can jump in and hammer the throttle. You really need to take an entire day and a full tank of gas and just run it. You will learn so much more by doing that than just those quick little trips. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

leave the fishing poles at home go to the lake by yourself with the only intention of learning to drive the boat at speed....as mike said balance of the boat left to right is KEY......

You can let go of the steering wheel after you get use to it, they are a very fun boat to drive...................
