steering cable replacement
Anyone ever changed the steering cables on a Javelin 379TE?? I know it has a rack and pinion system, just not a clue as to how long I need to order them. Also, i've read alot about the NFB systems, and will those cables work on my factory helm? thanks

Terry,
Hello. I have a Stratos and i replaced the steering cable and it was much easier than i thought. I bought the cable through Bass Pro Shops. I think i took the existing cable out and measured it and then ordered based on the length i needed.
It took me about 1 hour to take existing cable out ( just being careful and slow ) and then about 1 hour to put new cable in. Be careful about what screws you take off and what you put back ensuring it's dead-exact on what you took off and put back on... since you are dealing with the lifeline here between your engine and you.
It's an easy job and it's awesome having that sweet smooth steering when you are done.
The *only* thing that could catch you up with time/effort is if within the Javelin someone in building the boat tied/wrapped all the wiring and the steering cables together with plastic tight straps or something.. in that case you wouldn't be able to get the old cable out without taking off the rub rail screws and opening your boat up like a sandwitch to get the the wires/cables that run under the the top of boat between the driver console area and the engine.
Take old cable out now, ensure you can do it.. if you can then you are just 1.5 hours away from smooth steering.
Good luck. Easy job....
