Re: 285 Stratos Question (taekdown918)
I had an '04 with a Johnson 150 w/ a 6" jackplate and a 23 also. It would run 62 any day of the week and the best I ever saw was 64.4 with perfect conditions. Great boats. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif Welcome to the BBC BTW.
Re: 285 Stratos Question (taekdown918)
i have an 04 and a yamaha 150 vmax and run a 23P tempest plus. I've hit 62 but that was at 6K rpms and perfect conditions. It runs great at 52 - 55 with little effort, which is what I like to keep it at.
Re: 285 Stratos Question (tx_basser)
Thanks guys, it did not go over 5100 RPS but i did not stay in it for more than the 10 seconds they recommend since it is new. Hopefully it goes up a little higher after break in, if not i will take it back to the dealer. It is a little hard to tell until i break it in. Any more info would be greatly appreciated.
Re: 285 Stratos Question (taekdown918)
I'll put money on it hittin' 60 at full revs.
Re: 285 Stratos Question (aussiebasser)
i have 2008 285 150 opti after brake in and 6 inch jack plate at 3.5 from bottom
23 pitch tempist plus gps is 62.3
Re: 285 Stratos Question (stratosmax)
Congrats on the new 285. I had an '04 and it was a great boat. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
A jackplate is a great addition to the boat as your ability to fine tune the setup is almost nonexistent without the plate. That combo will run over 60. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Re: 285 Stratos Question (1niceStratos)
I had a Stratos 18 XL, pretty close to a 285. I had a 150 VMax with a 25, I could hit 62 loaded, hit 64 once.
Re: 285 Stratos Question (Neilslure)
Thanks a lot guys, I am loving it, I will wait until the 20 hour service is complete and then i think i am going to add a jack plate at the same time they all ready have it in for service. My daughter and i had it out last night and had it at 57mph on gps, RPM was around 5300. Will the RPMS change a little bit after it is done double oiling. Since the motor only has 6 hours on it i did not hold it down but maybe 15 seconds. I know Mercury says break in period is only four hours but I want to make sure she Breaks in good.
It is a smooth ride though, it is fast enough for me right now. The only thing is it throws a rooster tail all most as high as the motor. Will the Jack Plate help bring that down.

a rooster as high as the motor is usually what you want to see! http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Re: 285 Stratos Question (Cody87)
What's your elevation at Peoria, Az?
Re: 285 Stratos Question (Todd Morgan)
We are about 1800 foot and the air temp was 106 with 86 degree water temp.
Re: 285 Stratos Question (taekdown918)
At our 700' your rig is good for 63 or so.......at 1800 I think 57-58 is going to be max.....elevation is a tough nut to crack!
