Should I worry... I think so.
I was installing a transom mount transducer on my '99 Javelin R19 this evening. I started drilling the first hole and just as I punched through the first layer of fiberglass, water began to run out. It was relatively small amount of clean, clear water. The part I am concerned about it the fact the water seems to be in the foam core between the fiberglass. I assume this is an issue and the water should not be there!? Also keep in mind that my boat has not been wet since October of last year. All I can assume is that the water is coming from an improperly sealed bolt or screw going into or through the transom? IE: Engine boat, temp senor screw, etc. Could this water be coming from somewhere else? Is there some other path to this area that I should look at? At this point I'm thinking about drilling a hole at the lowest point to get the water out, then having the outboard remounted and reseal all the bolts and screws. What do you all think?
Thanks,
Cy

I had an older boat that did the same thing when I drilled a pilot hole for a screw. About a 1/2 cup of clear water came out, I was concerned at first, but realized if only a 1/2 cup of water was in there for over 15 years it was not a problem. More than likely it could be condensation or something. I tapped all over over the transom and it was rock solid.

Water dripping from a transom can't be a good thing. I would post over on the Resto boards. You may get some better advice/opinions there. Some of those guys have done awesome work on their boats.

see the thread I have running now on a crack in the hull
a total of 2-3 oz of water caused a crack when it froze.

Mike, I saw that post last night. Interesting.
I made a phone call to the local bass boat dealer and a little water in the foam is not uncommon. I think I will still reseal most of the bolts and screws before I'm done.
Has anyone every removed and replaced their engine bolts? Can you do it with out taking the motor off if you do it one at a time?
Thanks,
Cy

It really needs to be pulled so you can clean all the old sealant out of there and get a good re-seal. Plus, you may be able to find the original problem by doing so.
