Installed a 6" jackplate on my 07 294 with 200hpdi to help the chine walk. Before the install it was at about 4.5" to the pad. I started out at 3.25" with the new jackplate and now the holeshot is better but it walks worse. Any ideas????

Keep raising the motor up a 1/4" at a time until you loose either speed or you get to your motors recomended water pressure. In the end you may have to play around with the weight distribution in the boat. Mine rides different with just me in the boat than when I have a partner in there.
the walk is worse because you're now getting alot more out of your motor. the 294 starts walking around 66-70mph. on my 294, i don't have any walk when i'm past 72mph
time in the seat will help you deal with the chine walk. once you start getting in the mid 60's mph, be ready for the bow to start swaying from side to side. usually it goes left first, then back to the right. as soon as you feel this happening, make minor counter-steering corrections. if the bow comes right, steer left, and so on...remember, these are extremely small corrections. do not over steer. you'll notice that the sweetspot is just a very slight twitch of the wrist.
if it gets too loose on you, back off of the throttle and try again.

It depends on what he is wanting to accomplish. If speed is what he is wanting then yes he is going to have to learn to drive it chine walking some. the more boat that is out of the water the faster you can go. But I do not think that is what he is going for he stated he added the jackplate to eliminate chinewalk. The only way to do that is to raise the motor thus putting more boat in the water.
He may not be getting more out of his motor as much as he is getting more lift and more boat out of the water. JMHO

i'm just trying to show that chine walk isn't the big monster that alot of people think it is. it's extremely managable on the 294, and will all but disappear with some practice.
most guys are looking to get as much speed as they can, and still safely operate their boat. i was trying to show that you can eliminate chine walk before it happens. as opposed to learning to live with it. it's become such second nature, that i never even notice my boat starting to walk on me. prevention is better than corection. not trying to http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/stirthepot.gif , just offering my $.02
Thats cool mine was doing the same thing as his and I added the jackplate for the same reason to try and eliminate the chinewalk.
What kind of speeds are you guys getting out of those 294's ?
i ran mine saturday, it's been down at C&O for sale for the past month or so, so i wanted to get some gas run through it. i ran 75mph(gps) in 95 degree heat. 76 in cooler weather.

It would walk at about 63 before the plate and now it at about 58 and is much worse. I raised the motor to 3" and will try it tomorrow.
Ok, Now I am at 2 7/8 and its much better. Now Its much more stable to drive. I am getting to 68 gps with a 200hpdi and 25m prop @5400rpm. I am thinking about getting a 26 tempest for a little more top end. Any thoughts??
Something's out of whack. Either, a) measurements aren't right, b) don't have a true 25m prop, or c) I need more sleep.
You aren't getting enough rpms out of the 25 so going to a 26 is not the right answer. That motor needs to spin 6,000 rpms. Are you trimming it all the way out and that is all the rpms you can get? If you'll pick up those other 600 rpms that you are missing you'll be running 72-73 and be right where it should be. I would suggest a 25 T1 prop or a 25 Tempest for your boat/motor. But, the 25m is not a bad prop and you should still be turning it more rpms than that.

5400 rpm, is this WOT? like jason said, you need to be right at 6000rpm's.....
wait, what is your altitude? i've been to spokane, but can't remember how high above sea level it is.
If you still have good water pressure you might try going up on the plate another 1/4 and see if that gives you the extra RPM's your looking for. That's what i would try before i went and bought another prop.
