Smooth out my ride?????? Bryan's Foil????
I have a 2001 Javelin Renegade 19 with a Johnson 150. Just changed from a Renagade 13.5x23 prop to a Raker 14.5x24. What a difference!!!! It now gets on that last pad, and my top end speed is now 62.4 on my GPS @ 5400rpm. It'sa different boat!!!!!!!!! My question, is that now I have to drive it. I know a foil will help with the porpoising that I now have at approx 35-40 mph and now a hole shot...Will it help the chin walking? What would a foil, like Bryan's foil do for my boat? I like riding on the edge sometimes, but there is something to be said for a little stability. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

Mike... the foil will help get you out of the hole quicker and allow you to stay on plane at a lower speed. It won't do anything for the chine walking problem at all(the foil is out of the water when you're going at chine speed). Do you have a jackplate? What is your prop shaft below pad measurement? What kind of numbers did you have with the Renagade?

I'll get measurement form pad tomorrow. I do not have a jackplate. I was running 58-60 at 5600-5700 way too high in my opinion. Renegade never got it up on that last pad. I'll search how to measure pad and get that. thanks for help!

If you're looking to get the most out of that boat, a jackplate is a must. It allows you to dial in the ideal setup. You want to start at about 4" below pad and move the motor up in 1/4" increments until you either stop gaining speed or start losing water pressure (keep it above 18 psi). The higher you get the motor, the easier to help prevent chine walking. You might also want to consider a hot foot and blinker style trim switch on the steering wheel ( much safer driving the boat at speed). Here is the link to check for motor measurements. Prop is 4.5 below pad. what type of Jack plate should I get, and ball park of coast. I ran it yesterday with out my partner, and I hit 64.3, but it was very squirrelly!!!!!!!!!! CAn I install a jackplate by myself? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

Mike...I have a CMC ml65 on my 98 Stratos with a 150 Faststrike and I like it (easy to adjust while on the water). It sells for about $200 from BPS. It's like anything else, with the right tools and knowledge, sure you could install yourself. I think you'll be glad you did. Good luck!!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
Re: Smooth out my ride?????? Bryan's Foil???? (MCGA)
I've got 6" Pro Hijacker jackplate on mine, run a renegade 25 on mine at 3.25. Chines a bit, but it's not difficult to drive through it, I'm running about 63 mph (speedo) but, I intend on trying a little less prop soon, RPM's at about 4800.
Re: Smooth out my ride?????? Bryan's Foil???? (emawyer)
Ed...have you tried raising your motor any? At your point a 1/4" could give you some additional rpm and help with the chine walk.

I raised it up 1/4 from 3.5. got a little more out of it. I was kind of torn between raising it more or trying a friends 24 Shooter this weekend. He's gonna bring it to the Va Rally for me to try out. Most people have been saying the 25 renegade is too much for that set up. but, I'd rather make it work, If I can. $$$$
Re: Smooth out my ride?????? Bryan's Foil???? (emawyer)
Ed...keep going!!! Raise another 1/4", keep an eye on your water pressure, keep it above 18 psi. If you feel your speed and or rpms increase at this point you could go up in 1/8" increments until you either lose too much water pressure or don't gain any more speed. I'm running a 25p gade on my 273 Stratos thats been reworked by Mark. Good luck!!
