In dash Lowrance fish finder question
On my 1995 Javelin, I've got a Lowrance X22A that's bad, and I want to replace it. When I removed the unit, it was held in by a couple of brackets and screws into a plug that fits into the gimbal knob hole. I've tried everything to get the plugs out, but they just won't twist out.
Can replacement plugs be obtained, or do I need to locate a unit with the plugs already in it? I really don't want to resize the hole in the dash, and I've got an angle on a unit that will work if I can find the plugs.
Thanks for your help...
Re: In dash Lowrance fish finder question (Hoosierbasser)
I had the same problem with my 1996 Stratos. I couldn't find a unit with those type side mounts. What I did was use a unit with the standard side knobs. I was able to mount it in the hole with one side knob on and then had to go under the dash to install the other knob. I had to sand down some of the threads on the knob to be able to screw it in to the unit. This holds the unit in the dash. I used wooden coffee stirrers to shim the knobs for a tighter fit. It's unorthodox but it did work. I've got the fiberglass scrapes and scratches on my hands and arms to prove it. Hope this helps.
