Are you using XD-100 at the TCW-3 setting on your 200/225?

Well, in my "Recent 2007 225 HO Update" thread I got a few responses in regards to my question in my subject line. However I would like to hear from a few more people. My tech didn't think I needed to have my 2007 225 HO set to run on XD-50 but would make the change if I wanted it done. I noticed tha AB's tech made the recommendation to make the change and use XD-100 at the TCW-3 setting. I believe all the 2008 225's are set to use TCW-3. So what oil are you using and at which setting? What reason did your tech use for you to make the switch? I am surprised Evinrude has not come out with an offical statement on this subject.

Hi, this is the latest info (as of 10.10.07) we have recieved on a service memo from BRP.

2007-150HP with a H in the model-E150DHL has the reduced oil ratio available but not recommended. The recommended oil is XD100
2008-150HP again with a H in the model number-E150DHL and E150HSL do not have the reduced oil ratio. The recommended oil is XD-100

2005/2006/2007 3.3L 90 degree engines with a H and L in the model number have the reduced oil ratio available but not recommended. Recommended oil is XD-100

2008 3.3L 90 degree with H and L in model do not have the reduced ratio available. Recommended oil is XD-100.

Basically engines that are High Output and some 20 inch shaft engines which are intended for fast boats swinging big props and are used at high RPM for a large percentage of time are not recommended to have the reduced oil ratio and from 08 models it is not an option. The recommended oil for these HO E-TEC is XD-100.

I hope I have not confused anyone and have helped a few out with their oil situation.

2006 E-TEC 225HO
When I bought this motor it was due to the fact that it ran with the lower oil setting and the power it had. Recent updates on it have changed the oil setting to run at the tcw-3 setting (recommended by BRP) and thy have toned down the motor (which I can tell / hole shot and top end speed). It is not the motor that was 1st advertised. With being said I love the motor and I run XD-50 in mine and it is set at the tcw-3 setting.

That sucks, I have a 2005 model with the H and L in the serial number and have been running on the XD-100 setting since new. Sounds like I need to take it into the dealer to change the setting real soon? This is why I liked the new e-tec uses almost no oil, oh well that is better than it blowing up which I hope no damage has been done to mine?

I couldn't tell any difference in performance, could have been hotter weather??

Could have a little to do with weather. Went out today water temp was 70-73 deg and air was 60-70 deg topend was 70-71 but hole shot felt the same I used to get 73-74 on topend. Realy dont care as long as I don't have any more problems with my motor. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif

I've fished out of Brian's boat quite a bit, and say that it's slower by about 3-4mph.
The old powerhead absolutely had more power.
When he first got the E-Tec in 06, the holeshot was around 5 secs with both of us in the boat. Now, with the new powerhead, it's closer to 12 secs. Brian was spinning a 28 Raker to 5800, but now it will only turn to about 5200 with the new powerhead. He's had to drop down in pitch to get RPM's and holeshot back to something reasonable.
The ONLY thing that has changed on his set up is he now has a 07' powerhead instead of the 06'.

Brian and I both have E-Tec's. He's got the 225, and I have a new 200 H.O on my new Ranger.
I bought mine mainly due to the excellent customer service, and the extended warranty. So far, I'm satisfied with the motor. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif But, the fact remains, it's not the "SUPER ENGINE" it was touted to be. If your looking for pure speed, you better look else where. If your looking for the best fuel economy, this is not your answer. I'm averaging 130 miles to a 48 gal tank. And that's not running wide open everywhere. But if your looking for the best overall package, I still think the E-tec is at the top of the list.

I am going to be picking up my new 2007 225 ETEC on Monday. I was highly highly recommended that I go with the xd-50. I told him, no really, I would prefer the XD-100. He then told me...honestly, we have compared notes with our other dealers in the area and we have had problems only when running the XD_100 with the minimum oiling setting. Therefore, they recommend XD-50.

Since I picked out my new 2007 from the showroom, the new service updates have come out....so naturally I feel good about the XD-50 TCWiii setting.

I have asked this before and never get an answer: does running an Etec at the TCW-3 level provide the same emissions ratings and oil consumption as the lower oil setting? I believe BRP is being dishonest in their marketing. I paid $1,700 extra for my 90hp Etec because I wanted to minimize the environmental impact of my motor thru lower emissions and fuel usage. My motor was shipped set at 50:1 and my dealer recomended I stay there so I did. I love my motor, but, it does not perform as the marketing materials promise. Am I the only one alarmed by BRP's retreat from the advertised performance of a major market segment for their motors?

The emission ratings are at the TC-W3 setting as that is also what the engines are shipped with.

It sounds like your dealer is not up to speed on the advantages and options available with the E-TEC. Talk to a more knowledgeable dealer.

Using the synthetic XD-100 is advantageous if you want to boat "greener" but either way the oil is completely consumed and that is included in the emissions measurement.

In 4-strokes, the old oil is not always recycled and a majority gets put back into the land, water, and atmosphere depending on what is done with it.

I have always run XD-100 in my E-TEC engines. My 2008 is no exception. It is a cleaner burning oil than the XD-50.

I never believed the hype of half the oil. I still remember the 100 to 1 ratio for the 9.9HP in the 80's. I had my dealer set my 90HPETEC on XD50 setting using XD100 oil. I wasn't going to have my 90HP blow up like the 9.9HP

That is what is recommended if you have an HO engine.

I run XD 100 in 2000 225 Ficht. Come on guys.....even at $45/gal, its cheap compared to the cost of a powerhead. No matter what BRP says, if I were to buy a new ETEC I would want it set at the XD-50 setting and run XD-100 in it. When watching the original infomercials, they advertised that the ETEC would automatically idle down to lower rpms and run without oil to get you back to the dock without powerhead damage. Does this item not sense when the motor is not getting enough lubrication?

I am no tech, but I would believe the out of oil sensor would cause that to happen. The motor can't tell the computer that it isn't getting enough lube otherwise....would be nice if it could though! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
