Electronic control panel issues
Hey guys, I have a 2002 ZX225 with the original push button control panel. I am aware of the issues these panels have and mine has begun to act up. I have to push the power button anywhere from 1 to 300 times to make the power activate, once it powers up it operates fine. I remember reading a post a while back about someone who replaced there older panel with the replacement kit Skeeter has or version thereof. I also remeber reading that he got a better deal from a local mechanic than the boat dealership. I was quoted $ 347.00 plus tax for the panel kit by my local Skeeter rep. If anyone has any resources to check with or other options I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Re: Electronic control panel issues (toledo freak)
I had to replace mine and it can beccome a costly fix as most shops charge by flagged work (projected hours) it should run about 4-5, can run higher if problems arise mine was about 1000.00 all total

Not the news I was hoping to hear. I guess that's just the cost of doing business. If your gonna play you've got to pay. Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it.

Call Skeeter directly and I think it's a bit cheaper. Putting it in is really not too difficult and can save you some serious cash.

Pbmang, Man. That looks like a nightmare. Your dash looks identical to mine (2002 ZX225) judging by the designs on the trim but the control panel in the pictures is a push button panel (which I like). I think they came in the 2006 and newer models. Have they since replaced these with the rocker switches or is there a choice. If you wouldn't mind could you post some pictures of your finished project. Thanks in advance, DD

I have an 06 ZX200 that came with the Solid State panel also. It went haywire last summer, eventually wouldn't even power on. I called Skeeter, talked to Darby and he shipped me the upgrade/replacement toggle switch panel free of charge. There are a few minor changes you have to deal with but all in all not a bad deal considering warranty had long expired.

Yeah, I'll try and snap some pictures for you. You are correct, the newer panels are from a 2k6 boat, but they are also having problems. Within a year of doing mine the panel started acting up again. I gave Darby a call and he sent me a toggle switch panel. I haven't installed the toggles yet because the panel has all of a sudden started working well again, but I keep it in the boat. I figure I'll ride it out as long as I can with what I have. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif
Changing it our really wasn't that bad. My biggest issue came when I tried to make the trim ring fit around the panel. Skeeter sent me the wrong one twice and I was wracking my brain trying to figure out why it wouldn't fit. Lucky for me I have a buddy at Yamaha (who is headquartered about 10 mins from my house) and he knew the people to talk to so I could get the correct part.
As far as the wiring, it is pretty much just plug and play. I didn't realize that at first when I started the project (because there is no instructions) and I think I could do it again in a few hours. Just unclip a few wire clips, pull out the old fuse box and computer thing, install new fuse box and plug it up. The biggest PITA is cutting out the fiberglass in your dash for the new panel. I used a saws all and a small grinder to smooth everything out. That probably took just as long, if not longer, than the actual wiring.
If you have any questions, shoot me a PM and I'll give you my phone #.
Re: Electronic control panel issues (pbmang)
Thanks for the response and I will give you a call when I install the new panel, if I run into problems. Would like to see some pics of the rocker panel though. Have not been able to find any online. Just when you get a chance. Thanks again for all the excellent information. DD
Re: Electronic control panel issues (ddelgado22)
This is the rocker panel. I try and snap a few of the current panel in the boat as well.

Thats the best picture I can find of the current panel. I think I was trying to show how terribly it fit.
installing the control panel
[QUOTE=pbmang;738881]This is the rocker panel. I try and snap a few of the current panel in the boat as well.[img]http://img.photobucket.com. I order the same panel for my 06 zx 190 and was wondering if you have to drill any holes in the corners of the panel to secure it into thre dash because i havent figured out another way to do it , figured id ask for help before i drilled though.
