Your valve is probably either unhooked from the cable that runs to the switch or broken. One of mine broke a while back and I used a cork plug until I got it fixed.

You have to take the batteries, oil tank, ect; out. I have one with a broken cable I am just putting drain plugs in the outside holes until I take the stuff out.

I had some work done on my boat a month ago and had them fix it while they were working on it.

well i had out batteries and oil tank and removed the inspection cover,,,,i found 2 flow rite reversable check valves,,, no one near stocked the "rebuild" kit so ,,, i removed 4 screws on each valve took of cover w/lever attached and found 2 rubber "flappers" inside each valve and they looked worn so not having new parts i cleaned them and glued on bicycle tube repair patches on each flapper ,,, all is fixed and i only spent $1.50 on little repair kit
