Opinions please - Will this work

I was bitchin' in a previous thread about the crappy Lake VU coverage for NC, so, can I use the Garmin power wire at the console to power a Lowrance? The idea is to cut the power wire about 6" from the unit, add some type of quick connect/disconnect to the power wire, Garmin and Lowrance. That way I can switch to a Lowrance unit when I'm fishing a lake that is not covered by Lake VU. The two units are a 73 DV and a HDS 9, I also have a 93 SV mounted at the console, so the lack of a transducer for the Lowrance is a non issue.
