what else can go wrong!!!!

In January of 08 I ordered a brand new ZX190 with 175 hpdi. Since then many things have gone badly. I ordered with a larger trolling motor to start off and it came in with a smaller one. No big deal!!! Some of the locks on compartments would not lock!! No big deal!! Center cap blew off steering wheel on first road trip. on same road trip cheap plastic latch that holds ice chest door shut broke in half. Skeeter mailed me new center cap for steering wheel and ice chest latch. Also on first trip the transducer wire was ran wrong through trolling motor bracket and was pinched on first trip so lowrance on bow was useless. A few months pass and on board charger acted up and was showing warning light. I checked water and connections and in line fuses all before i towed my boat one hour to dealer. Dealer calls me back two weeks later saying they could not find anything wrong and wanted to charge me $200 for troubleshooting it. Final outcome was blamed on low water level in batteries which I checked before dropping it off. next on the list was the power trim issue most people had with the cheap plactic peice that kept breaking. Towed back to dealer the one hour haul and was fixed a week later. Later fishing a tournament with a full tank of gas and bouncing across the lake my gas guage stopped reading. It was sitting on empty. Bring bought back to dealer and they had to change a wiring harness because a wire was hitting a screw and grounding out. After fuel guage problem was fixed towed boat to another state to fish a tournament and when I put on lights early in the morning everything worked except tach and trim guage with lights on. If i turned lights off the guage began to work again. Dealer blamed it on a loose wire behind dash. After this issue was fixed the trim guage was stuck in up position. The trim guage sensor or relay on motor was broke and wire was pinched in half. This was due to a bolt backing out on motor and metal plate rotating enough to pull sensor for trim and snap it and cut cable for it. Now after a bunch of heated phone calls all seems to be going well. Went out two weeks ago and caught a few fish. Port livewell circ pump is went out. got home checked fuse and it was blown. replaced and it worked. fish tourney this weekend and fuse blew again. put new fuse in while fishing and blew instantly. called dealer today and was told it sounds like pump is locked up causing fuse to blow. WTF!!!!!!!! I cant win. And to top it off I have the chips on the rear of the hull where jackplate meets fiberglass. Thats another issue I read about on here that people seem to have on newer boats. Waiting on Skeeter approval for fiberglass repair. On verge of selling Skeeter and going somewhere else. Holy Moly....sorry to hear about your issues but that's not the norm....

Curious...Is there a lemon law on boats like there is on cars and trucks? Sounds like this boat might have been built on a Monday or a Friday! Monday=recovering from the weekend...Friday=can't wait to get of work to start the weekend!
Seriously though,sure hope you get everything resolved.Skeeter boats are a great boat.

That is my next step!! checking on lemon laws. I think with automobiles it has to be the same exact problem three times.

I have a Triton that was bought new started having problems 3 weeks later, has been in the shop approxmently 14 times (including the on day visits) for 353 days and counting as I went to pick it up yesterday and found a few problems 220 miles and a day wasted http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif

So all boats have some problems http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif ITS ALL ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE and a lot of dealers are lacking in that.

Wow. That is some bad luck. I would sure save all your paperwork and document the who, what, where's and why's because it sure sounds like this is not headed in a good direction. I think a that point I would be getting another new boat from Skeeter and turning that one back in. Bad Mojo on that one.

I have had new boats and you are going to experience these problems with all of them. I had a ton of small problems like yours on my '06 Ranger. I learned it was easier to have Ranger ship me parts and fix it myself. Most of the things breaking on your boat (livewell pump, gauges, locks, trim switches etc.) are the same ones installed on Ranger, Skeeter, Triton, Stratos and all the others. I'll have to think long and hard about buying another brand new boat because of having to work out the bugs. Just about eveyone I know that buys new oats has these problems.

I bought my skeeter brand new and had problems with it but it was problems straight from the factory. But at the same time it was like pulling teeth to get the dealer to do something. I would bring the boat and it would sit there for 3 weeks with nothing done. I was not wanting to put my repairs infront of everyone but at the sametime i just bought a brand new boat and i expected the dealer to check it real good before it left the lot. Some dealers are good about showing you the boat and makeing sure everything works while others are glad to get the money in the bank and hand over the keys and tell you bye. So things that i was able to fix or contact the factory for replacement was done by me. I had a pump go out, depth finder get full of water, trailer fender coming unwelded, dead cats under the deck, rpm gauge off, low oil light and overheat alarm wires crossed trolling motor not working, etc. So like others said, you will have things go down or not work. But then some of the things are beyond Skeeters control, they just use their products. I guess they could do a little better QC at the factorys.

Well i sent Skeeter an email voicing my opinion about the issues on Monday night. By Tuesday at noon I recieved a phone call from Skeeter. They seem to be pretty interested in taking care of the issues and getting in contact with the dealer about taking care of problems. The man assured me that if another electrical problem comes up after dealer fixes it this time, Skeeter will come get the boat and rewire everything from scratch. Wiring harness has already been changed for gas guage and tach. Hopefully its just the circulation pump itself and not a wiring problem. This is my first Skeeter and I must say I was shocked to get a call from an actual warm body rather than an email. Thats a plus in my book!!!

I am sure that if you browse other boat brand pages here you will find similar problems on all makes and models. Not that it will make you feel any better, but all boat makers turn out lemons from time to time. Boats seem to be magnets for shorts, cracks, blems and breakdowns. A boat is defined as a wooden (now fiberglass) hole in the water that you pour money into!

I hope Skeeter takes proper care of you. Overall, Skeeter makes a great product.

I have had the same issue with the fuse blowing on the circulation pump on my Skeeter. It blew two fuses before I figured out the prob. It was still working after I replaced the first fuse but it wasn't pumping strong. It quit working the second time the fuse blew. I took out the pump and it was cracked all the way across the bottom. I replaced it with a bigger pump and it has been fine. Hopefully this is what your dealer will find.

The transom chips are caused by the jackplate. you need to have the jackplate filed removed and filed down on the side that it is digging in. That is the ONLY way you can fix it. You can glass it..it will chip again......file the jackplate with a power filer......

Sounds like you have dealt with this issue of chips and jackplate. I was wondering if fixing it would only be a temporary fix bc jackplate would be mounted back in same spot. Its chipping on both sides
