keeping the speedometer working correctly
It might just be my boat but the speedometer had never worked properly. It started messing up 6 months after I bought it new by sticking on a certain mph or not at all. I had taken it back to the dealer and they instructed me on how to unclog the inlet hole. I have to unstop the darn thing maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I went fishing Sat and it never moved. Is there anyway I can keep this from happening so frequently.

I pulled the water line off and capped it, that way I dont have to worry about my speedo freezing up. I go by GPS speed, speedo isnt real accurate anyways.
About the only way to prevent it is keep your motor away from debris. Something as simple as bumping a log while you are fishing or running over a stick can clog it.
Re: keeping the speedometer working correctly (Neilslure)
What did you use to cap it ?
Re: keeping the speedometer working correctly (Skeet05)
Put silicone glue on it and stick a golf tee in the line. You could put a tie wrap around it too, but shouldn't need it. The hole in the engine will stay plugged up anyway, and there won't be any pressure at the guage!! I also just quit trying to keep it unplugged. Like Neil said, I really don't know why they even put speedometers on the boats, never work right and aren't accurate at all even when they work.

They are a real pain in the butt. Mine has been clogged for a few years now and I'm not going to even worry with it. I too just use my GPS for speed, much more accurate anyway.

I used a quick connect valve (plumbing section at Lowes) to cap off the hose under the console.

My speedo hasn't worked in nearly 2 years. Only worked for about a month. It ain't accurate and I only go by GPS speed.

no needo for the speedo.gps!!!!
Re: keeping the speedometer working correctly (Skeet05)
What i can't figure out is why they even put speedometers or fuel gauges on boats unless they are going to make them work properly. would just save a few hundred bucks in the cost of the boat if you ask me.

No kidding...my fuel guage is about useless as well. I just take a look in the back before a fishing trip to see how much I need. Rarely even turn the fuel guage on.
Re: keeping the speedometer working correctly (bass-coach)
someone should come out with a gps gauge - speedometer that would fit right in and replace the old speedometer! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by bass-coach »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">What i can't figure out is why they even put speedometers or fuel gauges on boats unless they are going to make them work properly. would just save a few hundred bucks in the cost of the boat if you ask me.
