Prop Question on ZX202 w/200 Yamaha
My dad purchased a 97 skeeter ZX202 w/Yamaha 200 about a month ago. It has a 3 blade 25P Tempest prop..
When coming out of the hole it cavitates like crazy.. If we are more than half throttle it wont take off like it should. Any ideas?
There is a fin on the motor, should that be removed? The motor height seems to be correct, or at least very close. Water pressure is good, and top end speed is right where it should be..
Thanks! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif

When you say it cavitates, do you mean the prop slips and RPM's climb as the boat breaks over to get on plane?
If so, this is typical when a boat is set up for top speed. You will have to feather the throttle to get it on plane without the prop slipping. The alternative is to drop the motor height by about 1/4 inch and it should go away. You'll drop a little in speed but not much.
This is a setup issue related to taste. Some guys want ever bit of speed on the top end and others want a blazing hole shot that they can keep the throttle to the floor.
EDIT: and get rid of the fin unless you plan on pulling a skier or need the boat to stay on plane at very low (15-18 mph) speeds.

Maybe you are trimming up too much, too fast.

Put some pvs plugs in the prop or try a 25T1 yamaha prop.
