What about AMSOIL

Some like it some don't. I wouldn't trust the claim they make/made about being able to use 50% less though.

I personally will not use it. I have heard it leaves a gritty residue.

Hi --- I used Amsoil in my 75 HP Yamaha and had NO PROBLEM at all. Yes - it does not smoke at all which is great upon first startup. Anyway bent the prop shaft last year - now I have a 115 HP Johnson 60o Faststrike --- I use Amsoil in it and again NO PROBLEM. I had the injector system disabled and prefer the 2-cycle mix personally. I am going to put Amsoil lower end lube in it soon. This is MY experience! I have used Amsoil HP Injector Oil since 2001. In fact the guy I bought my boat from in 01 was who turned me on to Amsoil. My motor was filled up buy the dealer with OMC oil but once that ran low it has had nothing but Amsoil...yes I have been through a few gallons http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif

Pros:

100% Synthetic oil means an ash less formula that does not promote carbon build up...not an Amsoil thing that applies to all 100% synthetics

Dam near smokeless...the only time I have ever saw a puff of smoke was when I started it out of water on the garden hose. (but I have DFI technology) totally different fuel/oil delivery system than a 95 Rude

Price compared to other brands... yes they are some cheaper than Amsoil but the majority are priced higher.

Cons

It has it in writing on the label (Recommended) for use where TC3 applications apply and goes on to give a long list of motor manufactures that are Recommended to use in. Key word Recommended not certified. I could go into details on what I have been told as to why it is not certified. I don't know if the info is correct but it did come from a reliable source. Their oil is not certified for a reason (or so I was told)

Your motor is a 95 model so it is safe to assume you will not have any warranty issues make the switch and see the difference.

I have a 1999 Johnson 225 HO Carbed that I've used Amsoil in since I purchased new in 2001. No issues. I ran the Amsoil racing oil at first and then that was replaced with the HP oil about 3 years ago. I also use their lower unit lube.

I also run the Amsoil in my snowmobiles and have never had an issue.

To each their own........I guess.

I would say give it a try. Your motor is out of warranty.

I do not use it as my motor is still under factory warranty and do not want any issues/hassles if I need major repairs.

AMSOIL limited warranty below. The fact that they have one convinced me. I use it for everything now. Just to see if you can get away with something other than factory oil?

Not cheaper by the quart but with longer proven drain intervals, it's cheaper in the long run. It's 100% synthetic. It protects better. It's better oil that's customized to it's application.

I don't see it as getting away with something. I see it as going above what manufacturers specs require. AMSOIL has documented tests that prove that their oil protects better and that equipment lasts longer using it. They warranty their oil and stand behind it.
