02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help
02 SKEETER ZX 200 W/YAMAHA 200 HPDI, 25M PROP, 12'' SLIDE MASTER WAS RUNNING 58-59 MPH(GPS) @6000 RPM 1 TANK FULL (2) PEOPLE 200LBS. EACH. 4.75 BELOW PAD. RAISED THE MOTOR TO 4.00 INCHES BELOW PAD LOST SPEED, AND RPMS, GOT A BIG TAIL 3 FOOT OVER COWL TRIMED UP. WATER PRESURE ALSO DROPED TO AROUD 13-15 FULLY TRIMED. WHAT GIVES? I AM THINKING I SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET 65 LOADED OUT OF THIS RIG. AT 4.00 BELOW PAD SPEED DROPED TO 55(GPS) REVS DROPED TO 5600. WHAT TO DO NOW? I WAS THINKING ABOUT GOING BACK DOWN TO AROUND 4.5 BELOW. THIS BOAT RUNS HEAVY TOURNAMENT LOADS AND NEVER HAS REALLY HAD THE LIFT I THINK IT NEEDS. GOOD HOLE SHOT AND OVERALL HANDLING JUST LAKING SOME SPEEEEEEEED.
Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (sker13)
Something doesn't sound right. I have exactly the same boat. With a 25M, light load, heavy air, I can GPS at 67 - 68 at about 5800 rpms. 20 PSI water pressure. I'm about 4" above the pad. Tournament load in summer, speed drops to 64 or so. Very minimal rooster tail. Do you have prop or skeg damage? Something just ain't right.
If I had to guess, I'd bet your HPDI is not putting out. High pressure fuel filter, my guess. You are having to over trim to get RPM's. That's the reason for the big rooster tail and the low water pressure. I had the same problem a couple years ago.
I typically run a 25 Tempest. Easier to drive. More lift, but top speed has no major change between props.
Get someone to put the motor on the computer and check it out.

I'm no expert on this but from reading others, it seems that your to low with the jp. Others should chime in on this and give you better info than me. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (fishin couillon)
YOU SHOULD HAVE LOW WATERP/U WITH YOUR MOTOR? IF SO TAKE A $ BILL AND SPLIT THE JACKPLATE WITH THE WIDTH OF IT ( 2 1/2 " ) THIS SHOULD PUT YOU CLOSE TO WHERE YOU NEED TO BE .. BUT WATCH YOUR WATER PRESSURE AND RPM's THIS IS A GOOD STARTING POINT FOR ALOT OF SKEETER BOATS ... GOOD LUCK . BE READY TO SEND YOUR PROP TO MARK TO HAVE IT WORKED , THEN YOU CAN GET SOM EREAL SPEED... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/stirthepot.gif
Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (HAWK18)
thanks for the responces...i guess it still can go up...just weird that it intially got worse when i raised it..and lost some rpm...i am gona try it out at Lake Oroville this week end. I am pre fishing for a TOC so i won't have time to fiddle around...I hope I have good water pres. @ 2.5'' below or i will be cruising around trimed down all day. 2.6 liter hpdi never let me down but not a speed demon.
Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (sker13)
That is where I ran mine on a ZX190 and it is also the sweetspot on my ZX250 , with 250hpdi keep us posted....
Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (sker13)
I have this exact same rig and run about 67 with myself only 25 gallons fuel and all gear. It drops to about 63 with my 250 lb partner and his gear and a little more fuel. This is after I recently raised to 2.5" below pad. Went from 18-17 psi with the water pressure...
Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (smilingangler)
All are good ideas. I still suspect the motor is down on power. I had high pressure fuel filters clog up in 2005 and lost a lot of power. Of course, mucking wiht the motor height is free and can't hurt to try.
Of course I am not running my shaft 4" above the pad. Brain damage.
Looks like smilingangler's perfomance matches mine.

Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (sker13)
also I would think about Getting the New Poppet Valve put in that shopuld help with water Psi
I'm running my 202ZX @ 2.5" Below Pad also with about the same #'s as the rest Now
Should get 65-67 all day long...
Check plugs, change them if its been a year or more... give gas a double dose of Sea Foam and run it 40 miles or so... cleans out the carbon. My 06 TZX200 ran 70+ 3 times this week with me and 30 gallons of gas plus gear... my jplate is 2 inches below... try yours at 3 inches... maybe you are trimming up too much also, raising engine and losing RPMs sounds backwards unless you are over trimming... when you are 5+ miles slow, some basics need attention... maybe I am all wrong but that is where I would start.

Re: 02 skeeter zx200 w/yam 200 hpdi help (sker13)
i am definately down on power 5200 rpm is all i could get. Oroville Lake is only 700 ft. elev. 2.5'' below the pad. I was running 6000 rpm before. I guess its a coincedience that i lost rpm after raising the motor. my dash speedo hasn't worked in a long time. I probably never paid atention to gps speed.
