After the TC-W3 specs were out for several years, back in the early '90's, the NMMA toughend up the requirements for ring-sticking and the oils had to be reformulated, hence the " R " in front of the certification number.
About a year ago, a lubricity test was added and they added an " L " to the certification number. Now the latest oils have " RL " in front of the 5 digit certification code.
