Oil for E-Tech

I finaly got my 225 HO E-Tech today. Didnt have time to get any number. Soon to come. On the subject of what oil to use was solved for me when I read the manual. I've seen this question alot, so here is the answer from manual. XD-30 ( TC-W3RL ), XD-50 and XD-100 if programmed for it. XD-30 and XD-50 can be used without additional programming of the EMM. By the manual, when you get a low oil alarm using XD-30 and XD-50, you have 5 hour of normal operations left. If you are using XD-100, you have 10 hours of normal usage left. The manual does state that the XD-100 is BRP's prefered oil for the E-tech. Secondly the preffered is any Evinrude/Johnson oil. The manual also states that if the motor is programed for XD-100, a one-time only use of oil meeting NMMA TC-W3RL spec can be used in an emergency. Hope this helps answer question folks have had.

But whats the "RL" in the TCW spec ? niether Bomb or Amsoil really knew what it was, confusing.

After the TC-W3 specs were out for several years, back in the early '90's, the NMMA toughend up the requirements for ring-sticking and the oils had to be reformulated, hence the " R " in front of the certification number.

About a year ago, a lubricity test was added and they added an " L " to the certification number. Now the latest oils have " RL " in front of the 5 digit certification code.
