How to disable the reverse brakes on my 03' ZX225 trailer?
I have a 2003 ZX225 and I want to disable the reverse brakes (I only tow the boat a 1/2 mile twice a year to/from the boat launch) I added the adapter to my light harness to work with a 5 plug-in adapter, but I find it more of a hassle and would rather just turn the reversing brakes off. Anyone know an easy way to do this?
These brakes only disengage when I put my SUV in reverse

I drilled a hole in front of the part that slides forward and stuck a pin in it. Works great. Keeps the thing from sliding forward and engaging the brakes. I use it mainly to move the boat around w/ the tractor. Actually the trailer should already have a pin for the hole in the side, but it doesn't work as well as my set-up.

There is a reverse lock-out key made by the trailer manufacturers. I have seen people make a clip for the key to stay in place all the time. The only issue comes when you are going to make a fast stop at a stop light, without some help from that brake, you are going to be pushing the envelope.
Good Luck,
Matt

I remember looking everywhere on the front of my trailer and not seeing any holes for a pin to fit into thus overriding the locking brakes. My boat and trailer are 2003 models. Anyone else with a 2003 model know what i'm talking about?

You say "these brakes only disengage when you put your SUV in reverse."
They are working as designed. I'm still not understanding why you'd want to over-ride them.

you can flip the plug and turn on your head lights to over ride the breaks.

it's just a point of making everything easier, I tow my boat less than a mile twice a year and not always with the same vehicle. Last fall I had to pull it out with my aunts crappy jeep and her wire harness was broke, needless to say I couldn't back the trailer up at all.

yep, but what if your vehicle doesn't have a functioning plug-in cord? I'm just saying, in this situation, you're basically screwed
Re: How to disable the reverse brakes on my 03' ZX225 trailer? (skeetzx225)
There is really now way to over ride the system. You can do as others have stated in flipping the plug when needed but the new trailers don't have a manual lock out like the older ones did. I guess you could drill a hole to add a pin or find something you can slip into the channel to keep the mechanism from sliding in but that is about your only option unless you want to take both wheels off and remove all the brake parts.

I had the same problem with my 04 tzx 190. All I did was drain the fbrake fluid out of the lines. loosed on each side the fluid came out and presto no more locking brakes on the trailer. Takes about 30 seconds and it has been perfect ever since.

I would not want to have an accident and have to tell the trooper that I did not think that I needed brakes . http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif I see one happy lawyer on the other side of the fence counting money , plus here in Va we are supposed to have stickers on trailers with brakes .just my 2 cents but I have had a couple close ones and I want mine working .........
