Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (cgtarwater)
If you get the 150 you will kick yourself everyday for not going with the 175. Especially for 1800 bucks....
For just the simple reason of re-sale value. Plus in my opinion if a boat is rated for a 200 put a 200 on it. If it's rated for a 90 horse put a 90 horse on it....
I think you will only be happy with the 175..... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (1mo'skeeter)
175...the 25 horses made a WORLD of difference on my old ranger
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (pbmang)
Yeah....I kind of figured that a few months after getting the boat I would be wondering how it would run with the 175. Besides.....for the amount of money I'll be spending, the extra for a bigger motor is really just a drop in the bucket.
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (cgtarwater)
mine has a 150 and im very happy with it. 61-63 GPS in colder months. 60 in the summer. while im very happy with it i do wonder what the 175 would do for me
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (cgtarwater)
Get the 175, for the cost difference its worth it. First reason is with a 150 you'll run somewhere in the range of 60-63 depending on your setup, with the 175 you should see speeds around 67-68 mark http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif And here would be the kicker for me, the 175 HPDI sips gas compared to the 150 carbed VMax, trust me I have a 150 carbed VMax and I know http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif There's nothing wrong with the 150 (besides the gas consumption), in fact its about as bullet proof of a engine as you can get, but I am a firm believer in maxing out the HP on a boat. Plus like someone else said, if you are only planning on fishing out of it for a couple of years its a lot easier to sell a boat if its maxed out on HP. just my .02
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (Skeeter Jay)
Get the 175 HPDI. I have the exact rig you are asking about and one of my best friends had the same boat with a 150 carb. You will make your $1,800 back in gas savings if you keep the boat for several years and fish quite a bit. Plus it won't make much of a difference on your payment if you are planning on financing. I use about 1/3 less gas than my buddy does. With the price of fuel these days that will add up fast.
The 175 will be about 4-5 mph faster than the 150 with all other things being equal. I ran 66.5 mph with a 25M prop in stock form. I had that prop blueprinted and reduced pitch to 24 and it put me at 68.5mph. With my other prop, a blueprinted 24P TR04 I can run 67.8mph. These speeds were measured with GPS and were taken with just me in the boat, all my fishing tackle, and about 18 gallons of fuel. The ZX 190 is a really good fishing platform and has lots of storage. You won't be disappointed.
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (Bass Junkie)
ALWAYS max the HP for your boat model
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (skeetzx225)
Definitly go with the 175hp, my 2 brothers and myself all have 175 hp yammies on ours, our buddy has a 150 Vmax. You will not only see a big difference on top end but hole shot is dramitically differnt. also, I noticed while driving his, the trailering ability is way different as well. The 175 pushes that hull on the trailer so much easier.
The zx190 & zx185 hulls really come alive with that 175 hanging off the back!
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (mnbassman2)
My last boat was a 150 carb rated for a 175....it loved fuel...I now have a 175 efi....no comparison in fuel usage and power....if there is any way you can do it...do it....you will not be sorry...I will never buy another boat that does not have the max horsepower on it.... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (Hawg)
Definitely go with the 175. I to have that exact same rig & you won't regret it for a second over the 150. Mine is an '07 still set up like it came from the factory & with just me & my dad I've hit 67 on the gps.
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (CURRAHEE)
I have fished out of both and there is a definite difference between the two. Go for the 175, you will not regret it. Awesome holeshot and top end too! Worth the extra bucks in my opinion.
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (cgtarwater)
I have a 2005 TZX190 with 150 carb, it was $3000 difference between the carb and the 175hpdi. I didn't want to spend the money. I would gladly give $3000 to swap for the 175 now, but it's too late now. Get the 175, you won't regret it.
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (cgtarwater)
I have the tzx 190 with the 150 carb and I am very happy with it. When I bought mine I was told the difference between the 150 carb and the 175 hpdi was about 4500$ so maybe I was misinformed. The difference between the carb 150 and hpdi 150 was about 2500$ so for 4500$ I went with the carb. And as far as the gas goes i fish all day and have never had a problem with running out. And my hole shot is great and i run 61 gps in cold weather and about 58 in hot weather. Which ever one you buy it will perform great, just depends on how much you want spend and how fast you want to go. the main thing is it is a "skeeter" http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (stevieraybla)
Put a HydroTec Phase I kit in that 150 and walk all over the 175s...
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (reelman)
Thanks for all the info from everyone. I think that the 175 is gonna do it....I don't want to be wondering "what if" later and it would seem that the consensus is to max out the hull. I'll be sure to post a thread when I get the boat. Thanks again to everyone. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif
Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (cgtarwater)
I agree with Reelman. I have a 150 and when I get the time ( and money) I plan to install a phase II kit on the 150. At the time I bought my '06 the price difference was $4500. Since I am only about 80 miles from Nixa it is easy to drop the boat off and pick it up several days latter. They are also going to install one of their new props and do some fine tuning while they have the boat.

Re: 175hp or 150hp for ZX190 (Neilslure)
Ive had both, ZX190 with a 150HPDI and a 175HPDI. They were not this model though, as one was a 03 and the other an 05. DEFINATELY get the 175. When you load up the boat with 2 people, gear and everything, you need the extra motor. The 150 will run good but the 175 will run in the mid to upper 60's. Definately max out your hp on the boat.
