1997 Fast Strike lack of rpm's
1997 Fast Strike Serial #J150GLUEC Model # G 04322553. I have no top end. 4800 rpm's is all I can get. I have checked compression. Numbers are all excellent due to the fact that the engine has less than 30 hours on rebuild. Top 4 cylinders are 130 p.s.i. and bottom 2 are 127 p.s.i. My cranking battery shorted out and I replaced it. Does this sound like the rectifier or power pack or something else. I am about to give up and take boat in for service but wanted some opinions from here first.

Hull? engine height? prop and condition and manufacturer? You are about 1K off the mark though.

I really need to learn to be way more specific on this site. I should have said that I lost about 1000 rpm's for whatever reason. I was running around 5600 rpm's with existing set-up but now I am not.

Start the motor with the flush kit installed on the gearcase and the water on. Run the engine for say 5 minutes to make sure it has warmed up to temperature. Use a pair of insulated pliers and remove one plug wire at a time. When the plug wire is removed the engine should drop rpm and when you get the wire close to the spark plug you should hear the spark jumping and engine rpm should increase. This will tell you whether all the cylinders are working and carrying their share of the load and whether you have spark on all cylinders.
A word of caution, the ignition will bite unless you have good insulated pliers. Most parts stores sell "ignition pliers" which are made for the job.

The mods here are all OMC/BRP either former or current certified Techs or Master Techs, to trouble shoot a specific problem via the internet requires a bunch of data. We mostly combine common answers as we cannot connect or lay our hands on your specific motor, as much as we would like to. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif I am sure if you took you boat to a qualified OMC/BRP service center then your problem would be resolved. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif Good luck.
