Good to know your in Tenn.. If you come to Mo. please warn us. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif I've had my skeeter since Jan. and I not very comfortable either. Could be trim possition?? So practice makes perfect. I'm sure someone with better knowledge will reply.

With a little practice and forethought, you'll be able to keep yourself in positions that you only have to back straight. I rarely do anything other than back straight up, or turn it all the way one direction, put in in reverse and hit the gas, then turn the wheel the opposite direction and gas it again. This will complete a 180 degree turn in about the length of your boat. Only other thing I can add is it's easier to control when the motor is level. Too high or low and it's harder to maneuver.
Single outboard boats aren't known for going backwards very well. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif

I am also new to the Skeeter and I have found that I have to "bump" the throttle to get it to turn in reverse. If I just try to idle or slowly back up it does nothing. Also agree with the post about keeping the motor level. Good luck and do what I do. Practice off to the side away from all of the $40,000 boats.

lots of practice http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif They can be a little harder to manuvere if you have the engine trimmed way up for shallow water.

Re: ANY TIP'S ON BACKING A SKEETER? (burton)
Yes, these boats do not back very well, they are made to go forward http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
But if you make sure your motor is straight when you put in in reverse give it a small amount of gas and walk it out of the stall.. If the boat goes left turn your wheel right and so forth.. Just don't gun it when backing up, the boat will do a pinball affect out of the stall.. Also an easier way is to put it in reverse Idle it out and use your hands to push off of the dock and walk it down the stall until it is clear.. Or just walk the boat out buy hand or trolling motor using the dock and then once you are clear of the dock put in reverse gear and turn hard to other way which way you want to go.. Best advice it to keep working at it..
