skeeter slipping

SL 190 150 v-max hammer. 21 M Prop around 2900 rpms. Set-up is factory with the addition of a SE 300 foil.

When pulling skier around 20 mph----2900 rpms and turn fairly sharp. Skier behind so nothing really aggressive. It feels like the prop loses its bite in the water. Actually feels like it completely stops pulling. I can advance the throttle and it will rev up and finally catch. Pulls smooth through nice wide sweeping turns. Just where the creek isn't as wide I need to come around a little quicker.

that doesn't work well for pulling a skier.

Any advice?

do you have it trimmed up or down? Your props blowing out, if you're trimmed all the way down the only other solution I know is to lower your motor a little and see what it does. If you're not trimmed all the way down try trimming it on down before making your turn and see if that helps.

I am trimmed all the way down so I can stay on plane that slow. Hmmm. So how does one lower the motor?

I think you could benefit from getting a second prop just for pulling skiers. A Powertech TR04 in about a 19p or a Bravo One should hold better in the turns and give you more power out of the hole to pull skiers up. It wouldn't be a good fishing prop because you would probably turn too many RPMs with just a moderate load but for torque and handling and would get the job done.

But if you want to lower your engine you'll need to use a engine hoist. The motor is only held onto the transom with 4 bolts, just be sure and silicone around them when you put it back on to keep water from getting into your transom.

I am no expert by any means, but I would not go with lowering your motor as the first thing. You may lose too much performance with that. I would get the other prop as recommended. Just one nut and about 2 minutes and your good to go. I wonder though, why your boat is doing that. I have the SL180 with the F150 with the same SE 300 foil and I have no trouble like that. I am sure PSM207 will have something to say about this one when he gets on. Good Luck.

thought it was odd also. Maybe PSM will have some insight. Did it a few times making sure it was trimmed down all the way etc and was around 2900 rpms.

lowering the motor on that boat a notch isnt going to cause him to loose much performance, I'd say maybe a 1/2 mph top end. My thought is its a cheaper solution to try than buying a prop, especially if he's not one to care about speed. Something I got to thinking about is IF a 4 blade would actually bite better in a really sharp turn? Reason I ask that is because obviously he's getting some turbulance off the bottom of the hull when he makes a sharp turn and the reason he's blowing out is because his prop cant get a bite in that turbulant water. The 3 blade M prop has a bigger diameter (longer blades) than a 4 blade will, so that makes me wonder if the longer bladed M prop cant reach down far enough to get a bite in clean water, how will a shorter bladed 4 blade prop be able to? You might post this over in the Set-Ups forum and see if Todd can give you some good insight on this. Also, another reason I ask this is because I am running a 4 blade on my boat and it seems like I can make it slip in a hard turn easier than I could my original M prop. BUT, I also have this prop jacked up pretty high, so that could be part of it too.

Jay you answered your own question. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif Your 4 blade will slip in hard turns because you are running it so high. My TR04 will slip a little too in a really hard turn but I'm running it as high as I can. When I had it lower on the plate it held on tight. A blueprinted Bravo One will corner better than all of them due to it larger diameter. The 4 blades just have a little more overall blade surface which usually keeps them hooked up a little better.

You could call Jr at Pitstop Marine and see if he has a TR04 you can test. I think at one time he would loan them out for a small fee. Otherwise look around locally and see if you can find a good 4 blade to test. Most props shops have used props they will let you try for a minimal fee or a deposit.
