i have a 2011 Z518. I have an HDS 5 in the dash. My question is: Can a HDS7 replace my HDS5 on the dash? Will it fit the same hole as the HDS5 does? I'm not wanting to cut on my dash. Just want to put a HDS7 in the same place as the current HDS5.
The HDS5 was factory installed.

Bill, the 7 is bigger; It can be done and isn't that hard........... Leave the 5 there and put a 7 on a Ram to the right of the console. Below is a pic for you. Yes, u would have to cut a lot bigger hole, if i were you i would leave the five right where it is and put the 7 on a ram mount as Roger said. To be honest i don't think we ever put a 7 over to the side like that, you have the old style dash plate, the new boats have the bigger console where it is no problem to put up to a 8 in the dash. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

Why does my 2011 have the different dash/lay out compared to other 2011's? Over production?
Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they changed the 518 dash starting 2012 models. the 2011 I almost purchased were the same as yours. they were intracoastal models but still 2011 518's. the 2012 is a taller console to fit larger units above the wheel.
Late production 2011 Z518s had the bigger dash that a HDS8 will fit in. Just like the Z520s. Also the larger deck. (goes all the way to the windshields on mine)
I bought a new plate for that panel and built support system behind the panel that would hold the RAM mount. Couldnt use the other side cause i have a Side Imaging unit that I put there. It brought the unit perfect height for controlling the buttons without hands leaving steering wheel.

I had that with my z520...nobody actually cares but you as you have an 11 so no worries....really...plus that style has more legroom which I prefer and is still the best lookin dash ever made in any boat...wish my 12 still had it http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif
