I have a 2000 R81, with a 175 Merc EFI, 25 pitch prop and a 5 1/2" jack plate. What is the best setting prop to pad for overall performance? I currently have it set at 3 1/4 and it tops out at 65mph with GPS.

Gary, your numbers are good. The only other thing is to maybe B&B your prop, if you haven't already.
How many RPMs and which 25" prop?
5300-5400
Your WOT, range is 5000-5600, so your in the middle. Was this mph with a light or heavy load? If your hole shot is O.K. and its with a normal load, then your good.
With a normal load and a full tank of fuel hole shot is slow. Half tank of fuel or less its good.
Your running pretty well with out putting more money or time into it. The older 185's and R81-83's are 1-2 mph faster than the 188's. You could raise the motor to 3.00, just watch water pressure, NO LOWER than 12psi, 15 is better. Try a 23p tempest +, your rpm's will go up about 200-300, might give a better hole shot with a load, or increase the hole size on the pvs on the prop, that would cause it to spin up faster, and maybe help your hole shot. Your boat is running pretty much were it's suppose to. You need to get up on plan quickly fishing on the Vermillion river!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Which 25" prop are you running?? I am gonna assume (assuming doesn't feed the bulldog though) that you're running a 25" Tempest Plus. If this is the case be sure that your PVS holes have two large hole plugs in and the third one is left open....................this will cure your holeshot problems allowing the engine to spool up to 31-3300 r's on breakover coming out of the hole...............................RR http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif

This is why I asked which prop you are running. When I was running a 200 efi on a R91 I had to remove all of the PVS plugs from a Tempest+ to get a good holeshot.
I have a 1998 R80 with 175 merc efi turnin a
25 tempest 5800 rpm wot I run 68 mph every now
And then bump 69. I ran a 26 txp 3 blade tuning 5600 rpm
Wot and I ran 71. I'm sitting either
2 1/2 or 2 1/4 below pad. Been a while since I checked it.
I failed to mention I have a 10" plate. My hole
Shot in phenomal though. Try picking that motor up sone
R80 (300 series hull) and R81 (R series hull) are different hulls. Might try 3" below pad, but I think the hull will lose lift.
