STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1
I got bad news bout my 2.6 hammer today. 4 cracked pistons. With just a little more investment I can upgrade to a staged Hydortec 3.1 motor puttin out more HP than my 2.6 and a lot more tourque and now taller gears than the 2.6 LU had. Has any one had experience with the 3.1 the pluses and negitives? I think I will be much happier. With this new setup I whould have at least ten more HP and boatloads more tourque.http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
Re: STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1 (gamblerjewell)
Go with it, it takes a touch longer to build up HP but you'll love it IMHO. Great motor not bad on fuel for what it is. I know 3 people with TR196's, one with a 2.5 200 another with a 200opti and one with a 3.1 200. The 3.1 and the opti are neck and neck. I have twin 200 opti's on my big boat and I know they are strong, 4mph faster than the twin 2.6 200HPDI's I had before on the boat. Anyway all I'm saying is that 3.1 is nasty and can hold its own
by the way what are you doing with your LWP lower...

Do you guys have any mods done to yours? I am also a little concerned bout LU on the motor. What is thier Lu capable of speed wise and can it be raised pretty high with the stock woter pickups.
Re: STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1 (gamblerjewell)
The OX66 LU is only good for 82-82 mph before blow out. Thats why I now have an HPDI LU on mine. I have HT rec heads, and lightweight flywheel as of 2 weeks ago.
Re: STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1 (gamblerjewell)
I just put a 3.1 225 on my 209 i had a 2.6 200 the first thing is the weight difference I had to move the winch stand up 4 inches because of the extra weight in the back. Now for performance, I have not been able to get this new motor dialed in. At first i started with the original jack plate height and it was to low. I modified the original jack plate so I could go higher but I ran out of water pressure. so i went back down some and boat chine walks at 69 bad . It used to run to 72 with no walk. I am sure the weight difference may have something to do with it and I used to trim it out all the way to make it run before and now i dont think i will need as much trim. Still using the same props as before 27p mazco hp 4 and a 25 mazco hp 4 I just have not figured it out yet

With the weight of the new motor you will have to go higher with the plate and most likely less trim than before.
Re: STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1 (JAZII)
I will post pics as soon as I get it. I talked to the guys at HT today and had them add a phase II upgrade to the powerhead and exaust. They said I should expect at least 295 hp at the crank and monster tourque. I believe it will outperform the pro-v quite a bit. With the taller gears I believe that even if I stay with the props I have and run similar RPM's I will finnally be above 80. The best thing bout this motor is that I still have room for gains with porting and large bore throttle body and intake mods if needed. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1 (gamblerjewell)
I think you might want to go with larger diameter props with this motor. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

I just put it on a couple weeks ago, I have not run the boat this year. Ice is about all gone and waiting for a good day.
Re: STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1 (21XDC)
let me know. It really helped my 2.6 much better hole shot and mid range and maybe 100 rpm on top. I may have the guys lighten the 3.1 fly wheel.
Re: STEPIN UP TO THE HYDORTEC TUNED YAMAHA 3.1 (gamblerjewell)
How long till you get her rigged?
Jewell keep me in mind if the 27 does not work for you anymore. What are you doing with the blown up motor? Or did you trade that stuff in with hydrotec, I'd be interested in it.
