Trim indicator not working
Hello everyone. I just bought a 95 Cajun with a 94 Johnson Venom 200. The trim indicator on the dash does not work. I've checked the voltage at the gauge and it is getting 12v, but when I check the ohms, going up or down, it just reads 6 ohms. Does that mean my trim sender is bad? And if so, how can I check it? And where is the trim sender located? Thanks in advance for the help.

Trim switch is on the inside left hand(from the back of the motor),,,,, to check, take the 2 screws out, remove the unit, and the ohm check, and if ya dont see no change, replace.....

The gauge has a black/tan wire to the "G" (ground) terminal, a white/tan to the "S" (sender) terminal and a purple to the +12V or B+ terminal. If it has power on the purple, jump the purple wire to the black/tan and the gauge should read full up. If the gauge doesn't read full up, the gauge is bad. To test the sender, remove the black/tan and white/tan wires and hook an ohmmeter between them. Tilt the engine up and locate the trim sender on the port transom clamp bracket (to the left of the trim unit). Move the trim sender by hand. You should see the resistance change on the ohmmeter. If the resistance doesn't change the sender is bad.
