I sold my 150 EFI I had on my 190D Cobra { 99 model} . It was a awesome running little motor but loved the gas. It ran 58-59 and a bullet out the hole. I refuse to get rid of my Cobra, shes a cherry! So today I ordered a new 2012 Mercury 200 Pro XS~~ I can't wait to see how she runs, the XS actually turns 220 at the prop. I'll post a picture when the motor is on.

I'm repowering mine from the 200 EFI. I would LOVE a new 200 pro xs, but the budget is gonna allow for a 200 optimax (used).
Just for fun ib general bass boat topics, I posted " gues how fast it will run" and you will be surprised how many said low 60's and some even said under 60! I don't think they know Cobra's very good. lmao

I went from a 6 to a 10. Some guys are posting some good mid to low 70s with a 10 inch plate. Also, add some trim wedges. Not the trim extenders, but actual wedges that go between the motor and jackplate. Don't get the huge CMC ones though. This made my boat go from a 60 MPH boat to a 70 MPH boat before loading it down and running a consistent 67 mph every time I stuck it to it. That extra set back acts as a pendulum and gets the hull to raise over the hook, and glide better (or so Ive been told by guys who have tweaked their 190s and others who know the cobra hulls in and out). It woke my hull up and had a ridiculous amount of lift.

I responded in there what I was getting out of my 188 with a 200 HO E-Tec. arjone is right, that boat responds very well to the 10" jack plate. Low 70's is very achievable. Best I saw in it was 74 creeping up on 75 with the boat free of all tackle. With tackle it would run 71 to 72 all day long. This is with two people. thanks Joebro! you are right, she will scoot~~with my 150 EFI and a 23 Tempest B&B'ed by Steves Custom Props, she was a bullet out the hole and 59.7 on top, and that was a 150! Only reason I repowered to a 200 Pro Xs is a guy blew his motor and offered me rediculous momey for my 99 Efi, I wanted Steve to order a 10" plate but he said NO! he said if I had a EFI it would be good, but said the Optimax is quite heavier than the EFI and putting the heavier motor that far back will drop the butt end of the boat lower in the water and fishing would be uncomfortable, he knows I have a prosthetic leg and need as level a front as I can get. I sure am anxious to see how she will run!

I am wanting to put a 10 inch plate on my Hawk, but i was wondering if it would put too much stress on the transom. I have a heavy hammer on the back of it.
Not exactly sure how much more your hammer weighs than my 99 - 200efi merc. but i have a j and b 10 inch plate on mine and its problem free,( Mine is on a 99 2100 dc hawk), And i just checked it all out as i have the gas tank and everything out of the back compartment working on my junk @ss flow rite valve!!
