side imaging transducer mount location
I just ordered a new Humminbird 898 c si unit. I am chomping at the bit waiting on it to come in. My boat is a 2001 296 TF. What would be the best mounting location for the transducer for my new bird? I have to have a clear line of sight on both sides. There is a zinc outboard bracket mounted on thebottom of the main engine bracket that I am considering. It is right on the centerline of the boat and there is clear line of sight on both sides and the transducer would be just a couple of inches lower than if I mounted it directly to the transom. If I mount it on the transom, I am unsure of where. I have the three step type transom. I just want to get the best possible performance out of my new unit. Anybody out there have a side imaging on there Charger that can help me out? Thanks guys!!
Re: side imaging transducer mount location (dustlane)
Most of them that I am seeing are being mounted on the Jackplate.
Re: side imaging transducer mount location (cull25)
Well I got the unit today. I won't be able to put it on until next week due to a bunch of bad weather coming in. I am still unsure about where to mount the transducer. I don;t have a jack plate so that option is out. Anybody got any other recommendations? Thanks!!

Re: side imaging transducer mount location (TOUCH OF CLASS)
Thanks fellas. I plan on trying to get it into a garage or something this weekend so I can put the side imaging unit on. My cousin has a shop I can use. Also, if anybody has a wood grain dash piece without the fishfinder cutout, let me know. Thanks!
