Selling the boat to a guy from Canada, need info.
So pretty sure my boat is sold, the guy is from the Toronto, Canada area and he just left there and is going to meet me in the morning for a test drive. He has a cashiers check in my name ready to go (we agreed on price first).
Our plan is to test drive, if its all good then go to the bank and have them confirm his check before he leaves. Everything seems legit but in this day and age you can't be to careful. Its my opinion that crooks dont drive 18hrs one way, so I'm sure its ok, but any other hints would be appreciated. Everything that he has mentioned to me I have checked out (google is a wonderful tool).
TIA.

charlesn and hirks are both visitors to this forum, both GREAT guys, both live up there, both have bought multiple boats down here. I would IM them for advice. They can tell you how the buyer should do it.

One thing banks are doing recently is holding funds from a cashier's check until it clears from it's source bank. I found this out a couple months ago when I bought mine. Don't be surprised if your bank holds 50% of the value of the check for a few business days.

make sure that the bill of sale is itemized--ie; boat $xxx
motor $xxx
trailer $xxx
and the vin on the trailer has to be readable--this can cause some grief
other wise a piece of cake--did it this time last year
good luck

Thanks to all for the info, I'm going to meet him shortly. Shouldn't be to big of a deal they way it sounds.
Don't worry I'll be back in a Champ as soon as I find another one. Looking for a little older 19ft with a 200 that I can just pay off with the leftover $ from this one.

Well the guy bought the boat. He had a bank draft in the amount I asked for and everything seemed legit. Only problem is my bank will have to wait until it clears, and that might take a couple days. I'm not to worried about it. I keep telling myself crooks don't drive 18hrs one way to screw someone, that would be to much work, and after meeting him he set my mind at ease. He even mentioned he was a rep for Live Target crankbaits and will be shipping me a few down when he gets back.
Now a new boat search begins. Looking for an older 19fter.
