I just installed a H'bird 898 on my 05 Champ 198. I had a bear of a time fishing the Side Imaging Transducer cable from the transom to the console. Very difficult to get the cable to go around the "bend" at the rear of the boat. Now I need to install an in hull 2D tranducer to get on plane depthe readings. Is there an easier way to fish it up to the console? Seems like right donw the centerline would be easiest but not sure if there is an open path.
Fish tape is what I used: yours may be different but here was my angle of attack
Popped out the starboard side cup holder, ran the fish tape through the open cup hole, exited in the bilge, wrapped the ducer connector with tape to the fish tape, pulled to the entry, dropped the fish tape from the wiring boot under the dash, caught it at the cup holder, then pulled the connector up from there.
PS: You can buy wire lube at any building store its used to aid pulling wire in conduit. It can help you alot should you need it.
Dishwashing detergent works great as a lubricant as well.

An old control cable makes a good fish tape just cut one end and pull out the SS cable out
Have a fish tape - the problem I had was getting the trasducer cable "around the bend" at the rear left side of the boat - the connection plug is fairly big. I was wondering if I should be trying a different route if oen is available.
I had the same problems when I ran my high speed tranducer, what I ended up doing was taking the seats out, it's not all that hard and then taking the side panel that holds the fuse box, I have a 2005 188 elite so I would imagine it's pretty similiar to your 198. Once you have the seats outs you can see there is a clear path right down the middle then the wire is pretty to easy to feed once you have a clear view of the center of the boat. I would suggest you have a buddy helping you. good luck
HOw do you take out the seats? I need to rebolt my driver seat in anyway - it is lose.
I started by unscrewing the the seats (the bottoms and tops) then you are left with a big L shape piece. Then unscrew that, and you will expose the gas tank, you will be able to see the bottom of the boat, then you can feed your cable to the back and run it over towards the drivers side, I then ran the wire up along the big wiring harness that comes from the back of the boat. It sounds alot easier than it was, I had about a total of 6 hours in that part. I wish I would have taken pictures of this process but buy this time I was so frustrated I couldnt see. My buddy that helped me worked in the boating industry for years and he told me that champions are just built to well and thats why it was so hard for us to run wires. I hope this helps good luck.
