Left Ignition Key On in my Champ!
I winterized and used the ignition to bump the motor as I was fogging each cylinder. Parked the boat and about two weeks later checked and found my starting battery completely dead and realized I left key in "on" position. Hopefully no issue save charging battery back up which i did. However, I noticed that the hour meter now has about 40 more hours on it than the original 228....Essentially from leaving that key in "on" position for 40 hours! Anyway to reset that hour meter? Probably not an issue as I was just cleaning a bit on the boat today and do not see myself ever selling or upgrading this beauty! Any possible problems i.e. fuel pump or? for leaving that ignition key on like that? Thanks....http://i476.photobucket.com/albums/r...hampion005.jpg

Not sure on any effects from leaving the key on...Don or Sherm on the Merc board could answer you questions.
That boat of yours is sharp by the way http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

I ruined a starter batt doing that once. It never was the same after that, premature death. I don't have an hour meter, I think they're a double edge sword.

Hour meter a two-edged sword? Why if I may ask...

"about 40 more hours on it than the original 228", taken as a quote from the original post. All those hours on an engine that wasn't under active compression.

True, that's what bugs me....Unless I keep it for a long time, at least I know what happened....
