possible water leak question

'78 johnson javelin 85 hp.

While on the water hose (going fishing tomorrow), I noticed that there was water leaking from the seal around the tube (not the tube itself) that goes to the top of the motor (see arrow). The tube is behind this cover. I havent really noticed if its done this before, since I hardly ever run it on the hose. There is still great water pressure (constant stream out of both holes at 900 rpm on hose).

Is this normal? What am I looking at to fix this if its not? Thanks guys.

If your not overheating I would not worry about it.

Ok, upon further inspection (meaning it was light out), it turns out its the shift rod. Any problems with water coming up from around where it goes down into the lower unit? No water in my lower unit oil. Thanks guys
