varies over the years, normally different gearcases, software tuning, and sometimes different mounts. The later HO models cannot use the reduced oil setting for XD-100 lube.
I would be buying brand new. Just wondering which one would be the better choice on a new Margay.
Cooler graphics and the HO is factory tuned for high performance.
Higher performance as in better holeshot, response all around, and a little more powder in the chamber to make the hp number underrated? Similar to what OMC did so they would outrun Mercs of the same hp?
It has to be within the 10% rule so it is about 165 HP.
Any idea on what the price difference is between the two? And with a lightweight pocket rocket like the Margay would the regular etec get me about the same speed as the h.o. if I can't justify the extra price...even though I'm going to custom order the boat exactly how I want it and pay what it costs? I guess if I'm going to be getting a nimble hull I may as well strap the meanest legal motor I can to its hind end:laugh:

I had a 2000 200 Ficht and repowered with a 08 200HO Etec. Big power difference. Can spin props 1-2 pitch larger with no problem.
Sounds like I have a plan nailed down. Now I need to decide on what prop to order with it over the next few months. I keep getting told to go with a Fury, but am quite fond of the Trophy when it comes to higher speed hulls, but how does the Raker do? Guess I'll post that question over in the Kitty forum lol.
More people run Raker props on Evinrudes than any other prop...I am sure there is other props that run just fine and possibly a very few that might be better but the majority run a Raker props on Evinrude motors...FYI an E-Tech can run an original Raker or a Raker II but the Raker II is the preferred prop for an E-Tech.
The original Raker has a rubber pressed in hub. Over a period of time it is susceptible to deteriorate on a E-Tech because an E-Tech has a higher than normal exhaust temperature. The Raker II has a TBX hub that is made primarily of metal and a small harden plastic sleeve. The exhaust flows away from the hub in a way that takes the heat away from the hub more efficiently than the original Raker style. Hence the reason a Raker II is preferred over the original Raker on a E-Tech.
I have a 24 Raker and a 24 Raker II that I run on my E-Tech 150 HO. Overall performance is very close between the two props. I would give the original Raker a slight advantage on hole-shot and maybe 1 mph or less faster on top end. There is really not enough difference to notice unless I look at my GPS at top speed. I occasionally run my original Raker and run my Raker II 90% of the time because it has the better hub system.
Another good prop to try would be Mark Croxten's 24 Razor 3. It is a prop that he builds. There is several BBC members who run his Razor 3. Most are Mercury guys but there is a few Evinrude guys. Best thing about buying a new prop from Mark is if the prop needs to be tweaked/tuned to your boat motor combo he will "work" the prop until it at it's max performance. Funny thing is his Razor 3 mold is based off the original Raker mold. The Razor 3 has a good hub system so no worries running it on a E-Tech. Mark also has a Razor 4XL that is based on the Bravo I mold. It is a beast on hole-shot and load carrying but if you're after speed then his Razor 3 is the better option.
