1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It
Talking to a guy about his 1999 193 with the 200HP Ficht. I have no questions about the boat at all. I like the 193s in that year, its spotless and loaded up. I'm worried about the motor with this one. He says he had it checked out and it only has about 200 hours on it.
Any opinions on this boat. He will take $12,500. I posted over in the evinrude forum and got about 50/50 feedback on that year motor. I know the resale value of a boat with that year ficht seems to be a lot less than if it had a Merc or Yammy.
What do you all think??

If the boat is clean and in great shape, I'd offer him $10k at most. I seriously doubt he would get more than that, really more than $9k. If someone pays over $9-10k for that boat, they simply are a newbie who didn't do their homework. That ficht may run another 10 years, but the fact is most of them blew up, and anything with the ficht logo on it has almost no resale value. If it was me, I'd make a low offer, and plan on setting aside some $ for a repower next spring.

The FICHT motors of that year are low resale and people seem to have issues with them for some reason. I don't think the 200's had problems though. Besides if it has ran this long it's a good one. FICHTS aren't the only motor that blows up. They ALL blow up sooner or later.
You may be able to get a really good deal on that boat just for the fact that it has a FICHT on the back. That wouldn't scare me one bit though. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

I tend to agree. Seems to me like the FICHT problems were mostly with the 150 HP range. I don't recall many problems with 200+ HP models. And like WaterFowl said, if it had problems, they have been fixed. OR... it never had any problems to start with. I wouldn't be afraid of the engine at this point, but I would definitely use the engine to try to get the price down if you like the boat. Good luck. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (ReelBigJ)
My advice is to pay whatever you think the boat/trailer is worth minus the engine. If you have to rebuild the engine or repower, how much would everything cost add up to... then is it worth it??
I had 150HP Ficht engine that didn't blow, but had some lower unit issues. No matter what anyone on this board says, the FICHT motors had some big time issues, lot of blown powerheads. There was supposed to be upgrades (mods) done on the affected manufacturing range, so you could check to see if that motor was upgraded or not. I'm pretty sure it was the 200-225HP engines with the issues.
I'm sure there is a Rude expert on this board who could offer up better advice on these engines.
Bottom line is anyone in the know will steer clear of these engines on a used boat. They hold absolutly no value. You may get lucky and have no issues, but if you ever go to sell it you'll probably pay for it with a big loss.

I had a 2001 OMC Ficht RudeRam. I would not buy another OMC engine in my lifetime.
Bombardier, sure.
OMC...NEVER.

Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (ReelBigJ)
Pull an engine report and do a compression test. Make sure the injectors have had the strap kit recall done. Take it to a Evinrude dealer for the once over. But as been said the motor has no resale value. The FICHTs have a bad rap.
Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (ReelBigJ)
If that motor is still running then most likely there is nothing wrong with it. Take it in have it hooked up to the computer and check out all the data on it before you purchase it. Check to see how many hours are on it and updates ect ect.
Your taking a chance with ANY used outboard motor. Your problem is going to be resale just like this guy is having. And no, don't repower until that motor is toast. No sense in getting rid of a perfectly good engine before it's time.
Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (H2O_Fowl)
He is firm on $12,500. I just can't pull the trigger at that price with this motor. I let him know that this morning. Wasn't being rude, just let him know that I needed a little better deal with that motor. He said he would get back to me. So the waiting game begins.
Badger---Hook me up with some info...........
Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (ReelBigJ)
12,500 for a 99 with ANY motor is a little high unless the boat is absolutely immaculate meaning a 9 out 10 on the scale. Especially in these times.
Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (H2O_Fowl)
He just sent me some more pics that I requested a few days ago. This boat is at least a 9 out of 10. But its still a 1999 with a Ficht. Crunching some numbers now, but I figure to have a 8 hour drive just to see the boat, I think he needs to come down on asking price.
Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (ReelBigJ)
You have to live with your decision, but I'd pass on the boat because he's simply asking too much money. Secondly I'd pass on the boat because of the motor. There are too many nice champs for sale right now without a problem motor hanging on the transom.
Take your time and and be patient until the right deal comes around.
Re: 1999 193 w/200 200 HP Evinrude Ficht -Would You Buy It (jbabin76)
Your probably right. I'm going to let him sit on it for now. Just to much money for that boat.......... All I'm looking for a 193 or 196.........dual console. This has been a long summer without a boat. My patience will pay of though I'm sure.
