Need a new shaft but that's for a weld near the bearing that may or may not let go. I've de-burred the area where the shaft seal sets but I just blew another one today. It's getting pushed out and then connects w/ the thrust washer and mangels it. Why is it pushing out?
What is the model number of your motor and what seal part number are you using?
Has the gearcase been repaired or replaced in the past?

Only work I know of is we straightened the prop shaft. It had a bad wobble to it. Now it's staight as you can get it. I don't know what part number I'm using. I haven't bought one since last year and I just tell them it's a 96 Johnson 200 Venom. What seal should it be so I know when I pick it up? What is the proper way of putting it in? I normally use a plastic pipe that fits over the shaft and is the same diameter and just under the thickness of the seal and tap it in w/ a hammer. I also am unsure what way it goes in. Print shows one way, my buddies is in another way. I've put it in both ways and it still blows.
You may have whacked the bearings in the carrier from the previous wobble the inner bearing is 382407, outer bearing is 436752, seals are 334950. one seal faces the LU the other faces the prop so they are back to back and should have a gap packed with triple guard grease. I'll guess you've checked the wobble with a dial indicator to check wobble, and have checked the shimming of the shaft. CM http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/pimp2.gif
We did indicate it at the shop and it's within a grand so no issues there. I'm not aware of the second seal. Two seals that are the same? That explains the gap I have. Do you have an online print or a website where I can find one? The print I have isn't the greatest and not the same l/u. Was using it for reference when we removed the shaft. Thanks guys.
Nope sorry all I have is the shop manual and the parts manual. When you install the seals you do it like this >-< that is back to back, leave about 1/4" between the seals and then run your finger around the inside of the carrier and seals with triple guard. Thanks man. I wasn't putting in two seals so there's a good possibility of what the problem is. All that pressure on one seal. I'll send you a IM w/ my fax number for the print. Thank you for your help.

Your model number is for a 1997 motor, not a '96. I believe that originally had a 1 piece double lip seal. Those gave problems and it was recommended to use 2 single lip seals like in previous motors.
CM seems to have the fix for you.
I said 96 cause that's what it says on the motor but it's on a 97 hull. Must be made in 96 but is a 97 build? I'll order the two seals mentioned by CM. Thanks again.
