Fuel tank inspection 2001 206

I'm hoping that someone out there has a proceedure for inspecting or finding and fixing a fuel vapor problem. The fuel tank on my 206 is behind and under the seats. Problem is after the boat sits for a day or two you can smell gas fumes in the rod boxes. Pulled the seats and the 4" plugs and visually inspected the lines and the sending unit but can not spot any stains that would indicate a leak.
Any ideas would be greatly apprecated. Don't know what is intailed to remove that tank. Looks like you would almost have to pull the deck off.

I am 99.99% sure you have no leak. I have the same issue and so do many other owners Sadly, modern day tanks are what they call permeable. THIS IS NOT EXCLUSIVELY A CHAMPION ISSUE!!! I have my boat in a garage and leave the lids open...so the odor is a non-issue. Champion does install extra vents, but all vents are only good with movement....

My understanding is that the "tank-making industry" is working to find a better material with which to build the tanks....

I think some folks put small fans under the boat cover if they do not have storage where they can leave the boat open...

It was really bugging me that I could smell the fumes but could not find a leak.

I have the same issue and was a little nervous... good to know its pretty typical.

Nature of the beast! perhaps some day they will fix this. Could you imagine having this smell in cars?


Don't understand why tank manufacturer's just dont: coat the inside with a barrier layer to fix it.
