There's an interesting read on the BC board titled I'm thinking about buying a Bass Cat. Its all very good natured and it should stay that way but there's some talk about the poor ride of a 203. 203 owners chime in but please keep it civilized.

I added my 2 cents worth, the gunny comments were laughable, to say a Sabre rides better than a 203..I ride Potomac/Upper Bay all the time and that is why i bought my 210, it can be many a rough day out there, i only bought the 210 over the 203 for the extra room/storage..He is entitled to his opinion and he just might not like Champions and thats ok too, his money and his decision..

I think he had a very bad experience with the champion he owned and is very biased against Champions. I had a freind who bought a 1991 184 dc new the same day I bought my new 190 dc and he nothng but problems with the boat and had a lawyer involved before it was over. He probably wouldn't have anything good to say about champions either. But that is the exception not the rule.
Why else would anyone think that a R boat would outride anything. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
Your probably right, having a bad experience with any brand would taint your opinion of that brand regardless if it was a quality product, its hard to convince those who been scorned..Either way a 203 is a great hull and in the right hands can make you enjoy the ride back to the ramp...

I agree. It's pretty obvious when someone lets hatred/anger get in the way of common sense.
I was wondering how the champ guys made their way over to that post. You guys are welcome to post more often, it did make it interesting. And yes I have rode in a champ before, interesting boat, loved the dual console it actually kepted the rain off from beating me down.

I'm a bassboat groupie (see my list of owned boats) and enjoy learning new things about of all brands, so I'm always peaking in.
I also read about Tin boats and Nitros, so don't let it go to your head.

Ahhhhh, I think you miss understood what I was saying. Nothing goes to my head but cold beer. I was just inviting anyone to post more often, this is a forum. Not in anyway calling anyone a groupie. TOUCHIE http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif

So who has a 203 out there that I can take fer a spin? I know of one BBC member who can attest that 20 footer can carve a corner with the best of them.
My comments on the rear tank 203 being my favorite model was over in the general boats page. Seems the 203 is all over BBC of late. We all know how rough the water is on BBC. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
John, as you know, I had a 2004 203 ChampioN with a 250XB... I loved that boat but the XB was killing me...I went to a Gambler and now to a Stratos as you can see. Of all the boats I have owned, and have ridden in, the 203 rode the best in rough water. Gunny is an IDIOT...
I read the whole Basscat post. Gunny is entitled to his opinion, a boats ride is very much determined by the driver. Basscat makes a very good product, and it would be the only other brand that I would consider if I were in the market for a new boat. There are features/benefits of ChampioN and Basscat that make the boats both have a very loyal following.
John, if you ever need to borrow a 203 to set Gunny or any other misinformed person straight, I'll make the drive to protect the honor of ChampioN.
Peace,
Don<><
You have to know Gunny in person to realize the lunacy. He should reserve his comments to 17-18' boats only as thats really all he knows...that and he's a Mountain Home, Ark koolaid drinker.

Me too but my kool aid is from across the street, my Champ came from Mt. Home. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
Gunny may have gotten a bad boat...which is a shame...or maybe he just didn't know how to drive it...who knows...
Sometimes, folks are so biased towards the brand they bought that they refuse to acknowledge that there are other brands which can compare favorably.. They seem to feel a negative remark about their brand is a negative remark about themselves... I am a rabid Champion fan, but I have never had anything bad to say about BCB. They make some wonderful rigs. If there were no Champs, BC would be on my very short list.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/bows.gif
We all have to decide what we like based on personal experience...and maintain some sort of integrity. Bashing other folks' choices is not the way to earn respect for your own choice.

Well said http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
I think Gunny did get a bad boat and had a very bad experience with Champion and was just looking for an opportunity to bash Champion, problem is he bashed one of the best rough water hulls Champion ever produced. I have never heard anything bad about Bass Cat, only good.
John, my Champ 203 is always ready to roll if you need one to show him how well they handle http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
Well I'd like to know if the following quote from that thread is true? Never heard Pat speak of *Molinari* hulls before http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Bass Cat Boats »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">We have a fair amount of respect for the ride of the old Molinari offshoot that was taken directly from a Skeeter Wrangler and then Champion copied in 1976. The hull had to be updated by Skeeter and the newer Molinari version came out of that in the eventual Starfire models. Though Champion was somehow able to continue the hull in similar form through today.
The original tooling man for both of the first Champion boat model mold projects is still alive and well and retired in northern Arkansas and he has been gainfully employed by many boat companies including a try at his own once. His knowledge of tactics, ethics and of the heritage of Arkansas boat builders would shock many of you. He and his family are well respected by those at BCB, so before anyone starts throwing rocks on the origination. We should know way more than any here on this topic. There is a stormy past and history on boat building in north Arkansas. Things were not always rozy...
Moving on, the Champion hulls do ride good, that we have said again. The ride of ours (BCB) versus the others was explained by a couple of different writers and that characteristic is still true in the newer hulls. Some of the other brands tend to ride in a wave instead of on top of a wave like the Bass Cat hull does. This means if you set your GPS speed and could ride in both boats at similar speeds, you would find the BCB model is running at a higher speed on those same waves. Now we do agree that they should often back off the throttle more, though the fundamental difference is that our hulls ride on the wave, whereas some others ride down in the wave.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Thought y'all would appreciate this...
Had a kid out in my boat (203/250) the other day, he was about 15... those kids run wide open all the time (wonderful metabolism) then they crash and sleep. It wasn't real rough, but it was memorial day weekend on a small lake, so there were waves, traffic, and wind at 15, etc... Anyway, we were running about 50 up the lake, and he goes to sleep. TWICE ! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif Once each way..
Woke up and said 'that's the smoothest ride I've ever had in a boat'...
Now I am not much on 'my boat's better'n your boat',... I just wanna fish and be comfortable, so I chose a 203. ( actually my wife chose it ) But that kid's comment was neat, and I knew y'all would like it too....
I hope Pat will be along soon. I have never heard of Molinari either....
