Re: 180 a disaster? (Artie)
I have the same boat and asked the same question. It appears that this was their first attempt at a wide beam boat and it didn't perfrom as well as the 184 or 186. It was very weight sensitive and hard to setup boat from what I understand. I have a 175 faststrike on mine and can touch 63 with a full tourneyload and myself in the boat. I've got a 24" raker on it that has had some cup added to it and it made a world of difference. That boat should fly with a 200 on it. and after riding in some other champs I think the 180 is more stable at rest and seems to draft less water which is a plus in my book.

Re: 180 a disaster? (Iowa93champ)
Well, I WILL put my 200 on it. I figure with a strong 200 (cleaned up ports, milled crankcase, TDR reeds, 6500 rpm ECU) with a modified 25 Tempest should run mid 70's and have good holeshot, too.

Re: 180 a disaster? (Artie)
holeshot is already killer on it and topend isn't to bad. That 200 is going to be alot of weight on the back. With a full tank of gas and a person in the back of mine the top of the transom is pretty close to the water and I've got small carberated motor.
Re: 180 a disaster? (Iowa93champ)
Horsepower cures a lot of problems...
Get a 180 to lift, and it'll scream, catch the inside turning chines and it's a dog pound candidate.
Should be a great hull with a deuce on it.
Re: 180 a disaster? (pmgoffjr)
yeah getting bow lift out of my boat was tough with the raker. Great with ballistic, but to much prop. I think I can get 66-67 with a light load.
Re: 180 a disaster? (Iowa93champ)
Nate, a 200 EFI only weighs 25# more than your (my) little carb motor. The boat definitely sits higher in the back than my 184 did with a 200 EFI. Displacementwise, it's actually smaller-2.7 liters for the OMC vs 2.5 liters for the Merc.
I bought the boat to fix it up. I like a challenge, and this seems like it will be. I think if I can get the bow to lift with my modified 25 Tempest, It will run. Like Pat said, horsepower cures alot of ills. I have a good LU with 4 holes plugged on each side so I can run it higher-the noseconed lower units seem to give up too much bow lift.
If it will run in the mid 70's (I think it will), it will outrun 98% of the boats around here, and stun quite a few in the process!

Either you typed it, or you have the same ghost I have...which dialed 911 from my computer phone line twice this week. Sheriff dept not happy...
Re: 180 a disaster? (Lea)
The 911 thing, that's creepy.
I was being rhetorical with my, "did I type that." Should have typed, I don't remember typing that. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif
