Re: Evinrude 06' 150 HO (Phippy)
ok... remember the golden rule, you get what you pay for. I don't own a etec, but there is only one etec. I would suggest getting what you can afford... but don't expect that H.O to be an etec. You will be happy with either one of them. Just my opinion. Congrats on your new rig, post pictures when you get it. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

</TD></TR></TABLE>
If it's not an Etec, it's a DI; also known as a Ficht. Is it virtually identical? I guess it depends on ones opinion and my opinion says it's not. An Etec can be set to run in XD100 mode (this allows oil usage to be about 1/2 of a DI/Ficht). You can pull start an Etec, no way with a DI/Ficht. Etec's can go 3 years or 300 hrs before dealer required maintenance. Etec's have no user initiated break-in proceedure.
There are other things like the pistons, oil pressure sensor versus a switch and such, but I think I hit more of the important stuff.
Personally, I feel an Etec is as different to a DI/Ficht as it is to an Optimax or HPDI.

Re: Evinrude 06' 150 HO (Dae)
It's not a Ficht.....It's eons better than the old ficht in the fact that it's more reliable. BRP made great motors after 02. If you get the same warranty then go for it.
Re: Evinrude 06' 150 HO (Bassmeister)
You are correct in that it is not an etec and that it does have a break in period. Technology wise, the etec is certainly more advanced. However, THe non-etec 150 HO is a FANTASTIC motor and there will be very little difference in performance between the two. If you can afford the etec, well then by all means get it..........but if saving 3 grand makes sence to you, you are getting a great motor. THat boat motor combo will be easily a mid 60's boat.

How can' you say it's not a Ficht? The '02's from BRP were still called Ficht and it uses the same parts and injectors.
Yes, a BRP built Ficht/DI are eons better then a OMC built Ficht, but a Ficht is what it is.
To my knowledge, what makes the BRP built "Ficht" better is quality control. There was nothing wrong with the OMC Ficht design (I'm talking about the last design OMC was building b4 going belly up). What the problem with OMC Fichts were is that they were building motors that didn't meet their own engineering specs.
BTW, please don't think I'm bashing these motors. I the happy owner of two, yes two '04 motors with Ficht injection. I'm just pointing out that BRP Evinrudes are Fichts, unless they are Etecs, regardless if they are called DI.

Re: Evinrude 06' 150 HO (Dae)
thanks for the replies. here's what the dealer had to say, mind you this dealer comes very highly recommended. I've had many conversations with him I believe what he says his true.
"Mike, The biggest difference between DI and E-tec is the computer and
injectors. The computers on DI are battery powered where E-tec is powered by
the stator. Pistons are the same on '06 DI Evinrude model as the '07 E-tec.
BRP built around 5000 of the DI HO 150's. with the new high silicon pistons.
These pistons don't "grow" as a cast piston would. The Injectors (E-tec vs
DI) difference is that the DI is a 40 volt system where E-tec runs 55 volt
system which increases the pressure of the fuel to the combustion chamber.
Pressure difference in pressure is 600 psi vs 700 psi. The 100 psi increase
allows for the 3 star rating. (that is wh y it was changed) Fuel usage is
the same, power is the same as horsepower.
We have run both motors on Sabre's and have seen no speed increase. I pulled
a '05 DI off a Triton Tr186 and Installed a '07 E-tec. We saw no increase in
speed and fuel usage was the same. The 7 year warranty is why the fellow
traded.
As far as the break-in goes I feel that all motors need break-in. I have had
guys run DI's WOT at break-in and the motors are still running. It just
makes a "sweet" spot in the engine. Hope this answers all of your questions.
Evinrude has won the J.D. Power for it's '05-'06 engines. The 150 DI is
included in this data. And Bass Cat won for the Bass Boats again."

Couldn't agree more. Zero problems from mine and very easy on fuel and oil.

Re: Evinrude 06' 150 HO (ChampioNman)
I have a 2006 150HO non ETech. I am sure the ETech may be better in some ways but I have no problems with my regular 150HO.
