210 elite must have options?

I am looking at 2 different 07 210elite and 1 has a 250Yam and the other a 225EtecHO which engine would be better for this boat? it has only a 82lbs TM (minn kota-never owned one) and standard 10jp not hydraulic,,, has 3 bank charger, hot foot,dual console, recessed foot tray,gps at dash, Can the 82lb really push the boat or do i need to put in a 36V and will the manual jackplate work well enough in shallow water,,The Bobs hydraulic is a $1500 option? Also i see some trailers have SS fenders and step pads, will the painted trailers rust easy? Is there any must have options for this boat...Thanks

mine has the painted fenders and i like the way they look but they chip easy and have rusty spots on them....this next winter im gonna have them redone and done right where they wont chip........the TM is not to bad the 82lb will push the boat ok but it would be better off with a 101 not really a huge need for a 36v unless you just want one....mine has a 70 MK Maxx and i wish it was a 101lb.....with it being an Elite boat it will have a lot of features already on it.......but i would make sure it has a hot foot and pro trim on the wheel.....a keel guard of some type...i prefer Hambys Heavy Duty....as far as the motors go they are both good motors but i would pick the Yamaha over the Etec but thats just me

I would go with the 250. That boat really needs atleast that especially when it comes resale time. The ETECs also have proven to be very challenging to set up on Champ hulls - seems to be a lower unit design that limits stern lift.

210 is a great boat - enjoy which ever one you buy.

Due to fishing tidal waters with wind i was doubtful a 82 would push this heavy boat in a stiff wind, i am opting for 36V and I am leaning on 250 due to again a heavy hull and i think it would be be better to have a true 250 pushing this hull. Just deciding on manual vs hydraulic jp, if i can live w/o hydraulic...Thanks for your input...

if you fish tidal waters then the hydraulic jackplate would certainly be nice for those long idles into shallow waters. I use mine to fine tune the ride, its really nice to be able to drop it down an inch or 2 when things turn really nasty.

I agree, i have a hydraulic now, the dealer said it was a $1500 option to add the 10' Hydraulic...man nothing is cheap today...just need to figure the options i truely need, going for a test ride in a guys 210 this week, i will see what options he has to help with my decision....

1. I have driven 210's with a Yamaha. I would hold out for a 250 Merc.
2. You will need a 36v.
3. I would never own a boat without a hyd. plate if you can afford it.
4. Will rust only if you chip the paint off. Get long mud flaps.
5. Must have a Merc if you want the performance this boat is capable of.

$ 1500 for the hydraulic plate is toooooo much. You're giving them a brand new 10 inch static plate. I guess it depends on how much they want to sell a new boat. I'd make them give it to me, or negotiate a deal with another dealer.

I agree with Scott the 250XS would be a beast on the 210, but it wasn't one of your original choices....

That was my original thought that $1500 for hydraulic, what about the 10in manual your taking off, isnt that worth anything? There is only 2 on dealer floors that have the 250proxs and they are 08's...

I paid $1000 for my Hydraulic...and it is worth it! I think they allowed for the diff between Hyd and manual.....

there are only 2 dealers on east coast that have a 210 w/250proxs on them and there both 08's. i couldnt find a 07 with a 250proxs on it..

I'd go with the 36 volt, mine is a 200 elite and I wish I had the 36 volt. I'd take the Yamaha over any of the motors on a Champ. They have great mid-range for these boats and perform well. The Mercury's worry me on these heavier boats with the problems with the foots. Seems like most of the ProXS's I see with foot problems are on heavier boats. Jsut what I've seen anyway.

Until you drive a 210 with a Yamaha and then a Merc you probably can't comment on one or the other. It preforms a lot different than your 200.

I've driven a 210 powered by the 250XS and its a beast. The Merc XS has an edge on horsepower over the 250 HPDI. Now an interesting mix is the new HPDI series 2 which I understand may level out the the playing field.

The Merc lower unit as far as I know and what I read on the Merc board hasn't really been an issue. The larger bullet (cone) on the Yamaha seems to have some advantages on top end, but the Merc overcomes that with more Horsepower. Buy which ever one you can get the best deal on, there won't be 2 mph difference in them.

I inquired about the Series 2 changes. They are all in the rings an oiling system. 7 of 10 Series 1 250 HPDI's we sold blew up or showed a noticeable loss of power in 1 or 2 cylinders at around 40 hours (I personally have had 2 250 HPDI's pop due to cylinder damage cause by lack of oil at break in..
Due to the mechanical oiling system no HPDI has the ability to add extra oil during the break in period...and it seems the 3.3 liter blocks have the biggest issue with needing extra oil during this time. In fact when we get a replacement head from Yamaha we are asked to manually add additional oil through the plug holes....which makes a horrible mess. The 225 and under HPDI's seem to suffer less from the oil issue as the horsepower decreases. We did not sell enough 300's to tell one way or the other.
The series 2's make no extra horsepower. To me if they are coming out with a series 2 that is like admitting there is an issue with the series 1's.

The difference in speed from our tests with a Yamaha vs Merc is 3-4 mph. It will be a bigger spread once we get the right Fury prop on it.
