I was wondering how much room is behind the driver console on the new 188's. It seems to be a bit crowded compared to a 198. Only compared from looking at pictures.
Thanks, Jeff

Looking at the overhead pics in the 08 brochure, they look the same to me, but I have never been in a 188.... Someone who owns one will be along .....
Yes, they do look the same in the brochure, but remember the overhead view of the 188 in the 2008 brochure...isn't a 188. I think it's a 198...not positive though.
I think since the 188 has the newer consoles, that are open on the sides it would be about the same, but that is all speculation on my part because I haven't been in a 198.
when i started looking at boats we looked at a 188 and when i sat down my knees hit the consoles.....seemed like there is more room behind the 198 than the 188 to me at least
i can sit comfortable behind my 183 but i couldnt even get inn a 188 http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
The 198 also has consoles open on the sides...I think they are referred to as modular...
As for brochure...I am not sure. They are different boats, but, going by the rear storage comaprtment config, it does appear they are both 198s...
I have a ton of room in my 198, but haven't been in a 188, so I can't compare.....
Now you guys (and gals) have me worried. I don't remember sitting in the 188 but I did in a 183 and a 206. I ordered the 188 as it is the biggest that would fit in my garage. I guess I'll just have to take few inches off my legs if they don't fit....

not to be nosey but how tall are you? i know Larry Eby has a 188...you might ask him....course Larry is kinda a short guy too http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif but not as sort as Fred http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
I have set behind both and I couldn't tell the differance. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
about 6'1"... I just sold my 1990 184 and I never had any problem in it... granted I realize I'm not going to have the room of a 210 or anything but I can't imagine that the 188 would have less room than my old 184.
I guess I should have sat in the 188, I just assumed that since it was bigger than the 183 it would be fine (I didn't realize at the time that the 183's were a newer design).
im 6'6" 300lbs I can get in mine and get behind the console with no promblem. Actually the whole boat fishes verry big. Mine is a 2003 model with dual consoles.
Well that settles it. If a Green Bay Packers offensive tackle can get in behind it I think I'm (we're all) fine that are looking at the 188's. Thanks 188ELITE. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
anytime. I was told one time that the only difference between a 188,198 and so on is the front deck. They told me the lenght was added in front of the console, to the front deck. So 188 and a 198 of the same year should have the same size rear deck and console area. Assuming what the fellow at my dealer said is true.
188 has the least amount of leg room from all the champs I have sat in.its not as bad as some boats but it is a little cramped.the 183 has a good bit more room.jmo.but the 188 is alot more fun to drive http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Thanks for the information. Was going to send you a message the other day after I saw pics of your 188. Was wondering how you like the series 2 HPDI? My 188 just went into production today and I ordered it with the 200 opti (because the warranty was better at the time) but I could've went either way.
Maybe we should start a new thread...I didn't mean to hijack this one (I sometimes have a nasty habit of doing that). http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/devil.gif
How long after they started building yours did it take for you to get it?
I think it took about 9 weeks.the series 2 hpdi is awesome.no more mercs for me.the warrenty was the reason I went with the series 2(6 yrs).the 188 is great.very fun to drive.not finished breaking it in yet but with a full tank of fuel and myself 64gps at 5100 rpms.the jack plaqte is all the way down and I have not touched it yet.should see 70 for too much longer. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/bows.gif
I just wondered, because like i said, after looking at pictures, it seems cramped in the 188.
I am 6'1" 215 lbs.
Here's a picture of one that was for sale on the BBC boat sale board. It's a 2008 188:
Looks cramped to me:

Should be fine....the open side of the console lets you slip right in there...If you get tilt steering, even better...
I'm thinking it would be ok also... but like I said, I can't say for sure until it gets here.
Brandon, you said earlier that it took 9 weeks when I asked the question how long it took them to get it to you after it went into production. I hope I misunderstood you because I ordered mine on March 17th, and it went into production on May 5th, so did you mean 9 weeks from March 17th or 9 weeks from May 5th? I don't know if I can stand to wait another 2 months... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/embarassed.gif
Thanks for the info on the Series II also.
sorry about that clap.should be about 7 to 10 days after production starts. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/embarassed.gif
