It's not cheap but looks promising if I can learn to read it
I think its gonna be fantastic, another tool in the arsenal thats gonna help us put more fish in the boat.
its going to do for fishing what the flasher has done for ice fishing. Being able to see exactly whats going on in front of the boat in
"real time".
there are so many scenarios where I can see this being a game changer. I know we are use to seeing fish underneath us in the boats but being able to see whats out in front where u haven't spooked yet.
Watching bass chase shad in front of the boat before they or if they break the surface. So many possibilities!!!
I would love to see a bass come up and smash a topwater or watch spots chase shad in front of the boat
I'm looking to purchase now... the Expo made a believer out of me - its the hottest tech going at consumer price point right now... This type of technology would have cost you 30K before Garmin came out with this ....
Just need the best $$$$$ boy I'm going to be broke in the boat:doh:

I don't think so brother. The Panoptix ducer is a multi beam unit. The GT50/51 are CHIRP and imaging units, I think they are built completely different. I don't have proof of this, just looking at the limited specs offered. Garmin has been very tight lipped about this new technology.
Everyone that has been testing it is just amazed with it. The near future really looks bright for Garmin and us Garmin users.

I have not had the opportunity to use the panoptix on the water but it looks like a version of birds 360 but not as clear. For a bird you just do a quadrant select and it will look in that direction and you can see things in real time. From what I understand with the garmin I have to face it in the direction I want it to look by turning the trolling motor? I am very interested in some of the things that garmin is doing just not sure about this. If someone has on the water experience with bird 360 and panoptix I would love to hear what they have to say.

with the panoptix everything is happening in real time like the old flashers that so many still use.
With the 360 you can't watch your bait get retreived back to the boat and see a bass come up and smash it or see his reaction.
correct, everything on 360 is history. even with just scanning a quadrant its not as long between refreshed but its still history
you do have to have the transducer pointed in the direction you want with panoptix i believe. it does not move for you like 360
Yes, you point Panoptix with the trolling motor. As others have said, one of the most innovative things about this technology is that the entire screen is live, compared to 2D sonar, side/down vu, and 360 that is actually showing scroll history. Its performance is truly unbelievable.
I run a 360 and have since they came out. I can find structure really well with it, and chase schooling fish sometimes. But like everyone else has says, the refresh speed is nowhere close to what the Panoptix is doing. If I put my 360 to setting 5 (fastest), it will streak the returns so bad you can't tell what you're looking at. And there's no way I could ever see a lure or fish following it clearly.
that has always been my biggest complaint with 360, the smearing
i, too, have been watching all the panoptix stuff. However in every video and on the water demonstration i have seen, the real ability to see fish and see your lure is maybe 30-40 feet out. Most of the time the screens arent even set to read much beyond this... Has anyone seen greater distance? 80-100' would be much more helpfull (which is basically effective 360 range)
The future looks bright... before we only had 2 choices... now we are going to need bigger consoles to house 3 different units! :)
