I can tell you that the 98, 99, 2000 had some problems. I have a 99- 150 and it has had all the upgrades and it runs great- no problems. I also have an 03 225HO and it runs great also.
These motors are FAST but they do not like carbon build up. They seem to run best WOT and do not really like to idle around at 1500-3000RPM.
The "Experts" will be along to provide more direct information on that motor.
Thanks!
Can you enlighten me on these "bolt ons"???
6-27-01 EMM replaced
9-28-01 Tilt and Trim motor replaced
10-24-01 Throttle position sensor replaced
Will this contribute to future problems?
Thanks for the help!

Something ain't quite right then...the guy said he had the computer changed this year. HMMMMMMMMM???
What should I do? Is this a sign of things to come?
Acording to him, the extended warranty people (insurance company) is a pain in the A$$ to deal with.
Also, I failed to mention: when trimming down, the motor hopps visciously 3 to 5 times before it settles. Say between the tilt and 3/4 to 1/2 trim. What causes this?
Will this contribute to future problems?
Thanks for the help!
Please advise!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif

I'm betting the hoping is when tilting not trimming down while in gear. (single tilt cyl verse the 2 trim cylinders.) Mine will do that too. So did my 91. I've been told it's air in the lines. I just put mine in neutral to tilt down. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
Can't and wouldn't tell you what to do. I love my 2001. All I've done in the last 2 years is decarb, change the plugs and run it a couple of hundred hrs. It may blow tomorrow, but so may anybody else's.
Thanks Roddyrude!
I hope to hear from Rusty again or someone who specializes in this motor.

Don't buy that is a big mistake! Nobody wants to touch a FITCT Mine was trouble free till afew weeks ago blew up.Researched & found that they had proplems in 01 too! To late for me not for you buy a newer boat with a merc or E-tec with warrenty.Cant trade the boat with the FITCH nobody wants them.
Greg you repowered yet? There is a deal on a 2004 225ho for $9000 with warrenty in the motors for sale section. That wiould save you a wad over changing to a merc and buying all the associated items required like you've been looking at doing.
When in gear the trim unit may hop when trimming down, you may be able to bleed the trim unit and help with this problem.
The 2001 motors were pretty good.
my 2001 was great til it blew up...turned out to be a bad computer....but now i'm running a 04 225 Ho and i couldn't be happier....(til this one blows)... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
With that motor......that will be a long time from now. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
Not yet waiting for the right deal have a good price on a Merc Opti 225 brand new, rigged for a little more than that used motor, but it still sucks to have your motor blow before the seasons over with 3 TX's to go,I know now its worth it to get a little newer rig with warrenty, paid $20,000 for my TR20 a year & 1/2 ago now I have to slap down thousands for a new motor wondering if its worth it,may sell the whole boat cheap & take my lose now instead of later http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif
